The rule states that if a superhero's death takes place off-screen then it's really no death at all. However, despite The Boys' penchant for bloody action, it looks like Vought International will bring back one of the fallen members of The Seven.

The Boys season 3 ended with a bang, delivering a supposed explosive death for Queen Maeve, sending Soldier Boy to cryosleep, and leaving no room for doubt that Black Noir was savagely killed by Homelander. However, those familiar with Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comics know the latter is a bit more complicated. This is something showrunner Eric Kripke had addressed in recent months, stating that these supes might eventually come back to The Boys.

Nevertheless, it looks like Black Noir's hiatus won’t be as long as the others. Laked set photos posted by Comicodigy (@comicodigy) on Twitter show someone wearing Black Noir's costume while walking around on set. Filming for the show’s fourth season began not too long ago, and the first photo shows Noir among other remaining members of The Seven like The Deep and A-Train, as well as The Boys newcomers Sister Sage and Firecracker.

While Homelander is missing and the actors just appear to be hanging out on the set. His biological son and new series regular Ryan Butcher (Cameron Crovetti) is also there with the rest of the cast. Also, despite Black Noir's always hiding his face, except for a few flashback sequences, there’s currently no reason to believe Nathan Mitchell won’t be reprising his role as the silent assassin.

Fans of The Boys might pick up on two elements here, one being that The Seven are currently one member down from its required team members. Perhaps Ryan could somehow be turned into a permanent member of the elite supes, if Homelander were to decide so. On the other hand, those with some knowledge of The Boys comic book story are probably aware that his identity can be used to explore some rather interesting storylines.

While the series is shooting its new chapter, The Boys: Gen V has concluded filming, meaning the spin-off could complement the current animated shorts available on Amazon Prime Video before The Boys season 4 arrives. Until then, viewers won't really know how this new Black Noir gets along with Homelander or if they're destined for the same gruesome fate.

The Boys is available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
