Warning: Spoilers Ahead

9 Black Noir’s Real Name

When Black Noir discovers that Soldier Boy is alive, he does what any sane man would do. He cuts out his tracking chip and runs away. When audiences catch up with Black Noir in Episode 7, he is in an abandoned family entertainment restaurant, being comforted by colorful and animated cartoon animals.

These animals try to console Black Noir, who fears Soldier Boy. They go into his backstory a tad and remind him of all the times they have been there for him in his childhood. Most notably, they call him Earving. This is a shocking reveal, as in the comics, Black Noir did not have a name, nor his own identity.

8 Queen Maeve Imprisoned

After Queen Maeve was jumped by Black Noir and Homelander, many fans have been biting their nails in hoping that the character is okay. Maeve is one of the few genuine good superheroes on the show, and a member of The Seven who willingly wants to take Homelander down for good.

The episode features Maeve’s return, who is held up in what seems to be a secured cell which she cannot escape from. It was a sigh of relief to see Maeve alive, but a horrible reveal as to why she is alive. Homelander intends to harvest her eggs, to create super babies in his image.

7 Soldier Boy Has PTSD

As Soldier Boy indulges himself in an abundance of drugs, specifically marijuana, Hughie and Butcher question why he has such a dependency on the drug, as we see in The Legend's penthouse. Butcher reveals to Hughie that Soldier Boy has PTSD. Considering the character is over 80 years old, or more, it’s no surprise that he is exhibiting PTSD from his time in the war, and as a Russian experiment.

Since the 80s, Soldier Boy was being experimented on by Russian scientists, devoid of happiness and pleasure as he was a lab rat, getting shot in the mouth with guns and injected with things. Solider Boy has PTSD from the way he reacts to things, like Russian music, which causes his body to release a burst of radioactive explosions.

6 Butcher Trapped In His Mind

As Hughie, Butcher, and Soldier Boy venture into the deep woods in search of Mindstorm, the former Payback team member that betrayed Soldier Boy, the superhero gives his human allies a warning. Do not make eye contact with Mindstorm.

Butcher, accidentally, makes eye contact with Mindstorm and finds himself trapped within his mind. Here, he relives his worst nightmares. It’s shocking to witness the horrible abuse suffered by Butcher and his brother Lenny’s father, and how Lenny took his own life, something that Butcher blames himself for. It’s an insight into Butcher’s mental state, and how he sees Hughie as the brother he could not save.

5 Homelander Terrified

Few characters have been able to intimidate and put fear into Homelander. It’s part of what makes the character so terrifying in the first place. Homelander is unstoppable, and in every episode, he becomes more unhinged and deranged. In Season 3, Episode 6, Homelander received something he had never had in his life: a bruise.

As Homelander gives his speech at a rally, he sees Soldier Boy in the distance. As he heats his laser vision, he deactivates them when he realizes he is just hallucinating. Audiences have never seen Homelander so terrified, which could make him even more dangerous than before.

4 Soldier Boy Disfigured Black Noir

Black Noir’s animated animal friends perform a play for him on a stage. Here, audiences get treated to some insight on Payback as a team. The Boys makes audiences feel somewhat sorry for Soldier Boy since his team betrayed him. Yet, the animal friend tells a different story, of abuse, both mental and physical.

As Payback attempt to defeat Soldier Boy, Black Noir gets the full brunt of his force. Soldier Boy horrifically burns Black Noir’s face, forcing himself to hide under his mask for his disfigurement. He also uses his shield to crack his skull, and mess up his brain, which is most likely why Black Noir acts like a child sometimes, and cannot talk.

3 A-Train’s New Heart

After the devastating explosion at Herogasm, A-Train confronted a naked Blue Hawk. He did this for his brother, who Blue Hawk left permanently paralyzed and in a coma. Blue Hawk had been terrorizing black neighborhoods and beating them to near death. A-Train decided that enough was enough, and took matters into his own hands.

After killing Blue Hawk, A-Train has heart failure. He wakes up in this episode, and much to the surprise of himself and the audience, he now has the deceased Blue Hawk’s heart. His new heart means he can run at full speed again without the risk of heart failure. Thus, another threat for The Boys returns.

2 Temporary V Is Deadly

When Starlight ventures back to Vought Tower, to steal some permanent Compound V for Kimiko, she stumbles across some lab findings. Starlight discovers that the temporary V that her boyfriend, Hughie, and Butcher have been using, is fatal. This has been hinted at with how Butcher has been getting sick, and both characters’ ears leaking black fluid.

Starlight calls Butcher to tell him that after 3 to 5 doses of temporary V, the user will be dead, and their brain will be filled with holes like Swiss cheese. It’s a horrible situation, as Butcher needs the V to fight off Homelander, and potentially Soldier Boy.

1 Soldier Boy Is Homelander’s Father

In a fit of rage, Soldier Boy kills Mindstorm. Not only for betraying him alongside Payback but for what he told him in secret. This isn’t revealed until the end of the episode when Homelander receives a call from Soldier Boy himself.

In the most shocking reveal of the episode, Soldier Boy has rethought his desire to help Hughie and Butcher in killing Homelander. This comes from the discovery that Homelander is in fact, Soldier Boy’s biological son. The cape-wearing superhero was created in a lab, using Soldier Boy’s sperm, at the request of Vought. These are two superheroes that people certainly don’t want on the same side, considering the Hell they could raise together.

Season 3 of The Boys is available now on Amazon Prime Video.
