While there still isn't an official The Boys season 3 release date, it appears the Amazon Prime Series' social media team is keeping itself busy by riffing on real-world occurrences. That was certainly the case last week when the "official" social media account had Vought International tweet out the announcement that Homelander had been named the "World's Sexiest Hero Alive."

In the universe of The Boys, Vought International is the massive and sinister corporation that both employs the superhero group known as The Seven and is responsible for there being superheroes at all. Homelander is the leader of The Seven and while his public face is that of a staunch defender of the American way in the vein of Superman, his private side is that of a sadistic psychopath who knows he's the most powerful being on earth.

In order to stay in The Boys universe for the announcement, the Vought International account tweeted out the cover of the fictional magazine V-PLE with Homelander's face emblazoned across the front, along with the announcement that he is the sexiest hero alive. Underneath the announcement was the caption, "a saint of a man. You're welcome." Apparently continuing to stay in-universe, The Boys' official Twitter account soon tweeted its own version of the cover, along with the caption, "fixed that for ya mates."

The message seemed meant to be from Billy Butcher, the series' main ultra-violent protagonist who routinely goes up against The Seven and has an especially large grudge against Homelander. This version of the cover of V-PLE was marked up and drawn on, and a dart was stuck to the middle of Homelander's picture. Both tweets were a rather obvious play on People Magazine naming Paul Rudd its "Sexiest Man Alive" earlier in the week. Interestingly enough, Rudd plays a superhero himself, as he's taken on the mantle of Ant-Man in the MCU.

All of these social media actions come as fans of The Boys continue to wait for an official announcement of when season 3 will air. While showrunner Eric Kripke has made it very clear that production restarted in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, it's not clear how far along into shooting or post-production the Amazon Prime series finds itself. When the third season does finally air, it will have quite a few new heroes in tow, including Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Laurie Holden as the Crimson Countess.

The Boys season 1-2 are now available on Amazon Prime Video.
