A few years ago, former BioShock and Dishonored developers formed a new studio called Question. After a relatively well-received debut with The Magic Circle, Question has announced its next project in the form of a first-person co-op horror game called The Blackout Club.

In The Blackout Club, a group of teenagers living in a small town are all experiencing strange blackouts and waking up in seemingly random locations. Eventually, one of their friends goes missing, and with the other people in town dismissive of their blackouts, the teens decide to band together to solve the mystery and find their friend. What they discover is a secret organization led by the adults in the town that appear to be up to some strange activities, which sounds somewhat similar to Netflix's Stranger Things show.

As far as gameplay goes, The Blackout Club will feature customizable characters that have their own unique abilities and loadouts. Players can level up and improve their characters further at the end of each mission, acquiring new skills along the way. The game supports 4-player drop-in, drop-out co-op, and players will have to work together to explore the neighborhood and the unnerving tunnels beneath the town as they try to obtain enough video evidence to prove that something disturbing is going on in their town.

Inspired by teen horror movies, The Blackout Club does sound like it will be delivering a unique gaming experience when it launches in early 2019. However, there are still many unanswered questions about the game. For example, will the customizable characters still have distinct personalities to help carry the story, or are they completely blank slates? Will local co-op be supported in addition to the online options? What kind of abilities will the teens have at their disposal?

All of these questions and more should be answered over the coming year as we near The Blackout Club's early 2019 release date. While it's far too early to say if the game should be considered one of the most exciting upcoming horror games, it does have a fairly unique premise and its focus on co-op could help it stand out among the many other horror titles that are currently in development.

The Blackout Club will launch in early 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
