Since Hideo Kojima's PT launched on the PlayStation Store a few years ago, a number of other horror games have attempted to emulate its unique brand of terror. Yet another game seemingly inspired by the likes of PT and other first-person horror titles is on the way in the form of the Kickstarter-funded Civil War/Cold War horror game The Beast Inside.

Set in two different eras and starring two different protagonists, The Beast Inside looks absolutely nerve-wracking. In the Cold War era, players will control a cryptanalyst working for the CIA, and in the Civil War era, they play as Nicolas, a man who experiences strange supernatural phenomena in his home. As it turns out, Adam and his wife Emma have moved into Nicolas's old house, and begin experiencing strange things themselves.

Players will be able to explore the creepy old house and the surrounding areas, which the developers have described as "semi-open world." Every item in the environment is said to be interactive, and many will be important when it comes to solving the game's puzzles. As for enemies, players can either hide from them or fight them head-on.

Since The Beast Inside managed to raise $83,713 total on Kickstarter, it has passed three of its stretch goals. Anyone interested in picking up the game once it releases in March of 2019 will be able to look forward to more gameplay mechanics, over 12 language options, and more motion and face capture work. Unfortunately, the crowdfunding campaign fell short of four additional stretch goals, which would have added a new location to explore, multiple endings, console versions, and a virtual reality mode.

Even without these additional bells and whistles, hopefully The Beast Inside is able to deliver a compelling experience for its Kickstarter backers. Past Kickstarter-funded horror games have been a bit messy, with the similarly PT-inspired horror game Allison Road's Kickstarter canceled, funding moved to a publisher, the game canceled, and then development restarted two years ago with no updates.

The Beast Inside looks like it has potential, so as long as it is able to avoid the pitfalls of other PT-inspired titles, it seems like it could be one of 2019's better horror games.

The Beast Inside will launch March 2019 for PC.
