After the long-awaited release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, fans of The Batman will have to wait a long time until they get to see the caped crusader again. Fortunately, Matt Reeves’ take on Batman is looking so promising that it’s inspired plenty of creators to come up with their own renditions of the film’s trailer.

Although the Dark Knight wearing eye shadow might be an ungodly sight for some, the truth is that Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne could be a darker version of Batman than Ben Affleck ever was, an impression that was certainly boosted by introducing him to the world to the sound of Nirvana’s moody “Something In The Way.” The song is a huge part of the trailer’s appeal, so it’s no wonder fan-made attempts always stick with it, even when it's a LEGO Batman trailer.

Obviously, illustrator and animator "TheArt91Lee" took this same route when porting over The Batman in the painstakingly tough process that is 2D animation, though the result is a beautiful minimalistic version that really captures each actor’s personality really well. The video obviously runs at a slower frame rate than usual, but the technique does bode well with the art style chosen for the clip, especially when the Caped Crusader is beating the pulp out of some bad guys.

In fact, the artist's animation makes it easier to notice details some might let pass in the original trailer, like Bruce Wayne looking right at the camera in the trailer's final shot before it fades to black. Although The Batman is set to feature a pretty big cast of villains including Carmine Falcone, the Riddler, and Penguin, none of those characters made it to the trailer, due to the film still being relatively early in its filming process by the time it was released.

Once a second preview comes out, audiences will get a better idea of how Reeves plans to use all these villains, as well as Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, to avoid the risk of oversaturating The Batman with too many of Gotham’s eccentric characters. Maybe this new Dark Knight could benefit from getting his own series to pair alongside the upcoming animated feature Batman: The Long Halloween.

Unfortunately, "TheArt91Lee"’s YouTube channel and other social media handles show he only has one video uploaded so far, but with the kind of response he’s gotten, he’ll probably repeat the feat. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other fan-made trailers out there, even one imagining what if Affleck had stayed for The Batman.

The Batman is currently filming and scheduled for release on March 4, 2022.
