Bruce Wayne is an extremely difficult character to play since there have been so many live-action versions of him throughout the years. When DC announced that Robert Pattinson was going to be Batman in the upcoming film The Batman, there were some mixed reactions from fans. It's indisputable that finding a way to make the character his own will be a major challenge for Pattinson, but it's one that he's incredibly well suited for.

Pattinson’s previous track record of participating in a wide variety of films has highlighted his skill set as an actor, so fans should feel confident in his ability to bring Bruce Wayne to life in the new movie. Pattinson played a troubled wealthy man in the 2012 film Cosmopolis, who struggled to keep his life together in the midst of chaos. This was the perfect setup for Pattinson to nail Bruce Wayne’s billionaire cover-up. Although Pattinson dabbled with more mundane enemies like former employees who may or may not have murdered him at the end of the film, health scares, and marital problems, Cosmopolis proved that Pattinson can handle taking on the persona of a rich man with a dark secret on a greater scale.

Pattinson also dabbled in the world of action and adventure when he took on the role of Neil in Tenet during 2020, and fought against otherworldly elements like time travel, in order to save lives. Obviously, superhero movies are all about protecting the innocent and saving as many people as possible. Superhero films have also been placing a huge focus on time travel and the multiverse in recent years, so Pattinson's brief journey into the world of heroism was another great stepping stone that makes him perfect for the new Batman.

The movie The Devil All The Time was also released in 2020, and Pattinson had an impressive performance in this project, as well. Working alongside some of the biggest names currently in the superhero industry, including Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, and Bill Skarsgard, Pattinson took on the role of a hypocritical preacher who criticized others for their sins, while concealing indiscretions of his own. Pattinson's character was incredibly twisted, going out of his way to hide his inappropriate relationships with young girls. This character with a flair for the dramatic definitely wasn't an easy one to play, but Pattinson did so very believably and exemplified that he's capable of being more than just a sparkly dude with the desire to eat his own girlfriend.

Having proved to be a very diverse actor, Pattinson will nail the part of Bruce Wayne in The Batman and has made quite a name for himself ever since a young age. Although he started off in the Twilight saga playing a character he wasn't really fond of, Pattinson still managed to do the best he could with what he was given. Since then, he’s broken out of this role he wasn't enthusiastic about and has shown fans that he is a serious and talented individual, capable of portraying a litany of complex characters.

The Batman will not be part of the official DCEU, which leaves room for Pattinson to become the star of his own DC Universe-inspired franchise. Removing The Batman from the DCEU might actually prove to be the smartest choice, since it will avoid having multiple renditions of the same hero living within a single universe. Despite the initial skepticism that fans felt upon hearing the announcement of Pattinson’s new place in the DC Universe, things seem to be turning around.

Robert Pattinson in High Life

The Batman trailer has set the tone of the film to be quite sinister, so Pattinson's experience with working on projects with a similar feel should be evident to fans as they watch the movie in its entirety. Based on the feedback from fans after seeing the trailer, a lot of Batman fans are already excited about Pattinson’s performance in the movie. This new rendition of Bruce Wayne feels much more true to who he was in the comics, delivering a gritty feel that wasn't perfectly captured in other Batman films from the past. Capitalizing on the often silent, yet extremely deadly version of Bruce Wayne that fans have grown to love is why people are still excited for The Batman, despite being the next in a long line of reboots.

Alongside Pattinson’s Batman will be the infamous Riddler, a villain who hasn't been given much live-action screen time since the 1995 movie Batman Forever. This will prove to be another victory for The Batman because fans will finally see Bruce Wayne face off with someone else besides the Joker. The Joker has been given just as much attention as Batman himself, but fans are growing tired of seeing the same story play out over and over again. Overall, The Batman seems to be doing everything right in this stage of development, so viewers are hopeful that the film lives up to these high expectations.

The Batman premieres March 4, 2022.
