'The Amazing Spider-Man' Iguana Trailer

The Amazing Spider-Man Iguana Trailer

When Peter Parker swings into action in this Summer's The Amazing Spider-Man, he'll have a city full of villains to face. Previous trailers for the game have already revealed a towering, insectoid mech and that long-time mainstay of Spidey's playable adventures, the Rhino.

Today, a new trailer has been released showcasing yet another baddie waiting to take on the webbed wonder. Get ready, Spider-Man, because here comes Iguana!

As you may remember, The Amazing Spider-Man game doesn't replicate the events of Marc Webb's forthcoming film, but takes place immediately afterwords. Given the setup, including Iguana as a foe in the game makes a lot of sense -- Curt Connors, the scientist who becomes the Lizard (one of the film's cast of villains) is directly responsible for the creation of Iguana. It's a nice bit of continuity, and hopefully emblematic of the approach Beenox (Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions) is taking with The Amazing Spider-Man.

Take a look at Iguana in the brand new The Amazing-Spider Man trailer below, and keep your eyes peeled for a quick cameo from the Rhino.

Why, were those the dulcet tones of Nolan North voicing Iguana's inner monologue? I believe they were.

In addition to offering a good look at yet another of The Amazing Spider-Man's villains, the new trailer really shows off the game's traversal and combat mechanics. By and large, the camera is far more zoomed-in on the action than in Spidey's previous open-world games, which could pose some problems for navigating The Amazing Spider-Man's vast, virtual Manhattan. On the other hand, it highlights the animation and surface detail of Spider-Man's character model, which admittedly looks pretty spectacular.

Speaking with IGN UK, Beenox Art Director Moïse Breton discusses how the studio approached bringing Iguana into the game, and some of the character's abilities.

"In The Amazing Spider-Man videogame, Iguana has been re-imagined to be more animalistic than its comic book counterpart. The visual approach is less cartoony, which makes for really interesting details."

"In the game, Iguana uses his scream in order to influence or mind control other creatures affected by the cross-species virus. That makes him unique among the other villains in the game, and Spidey will have to tap into his creativity to figure out how to defeat Iguana."

Spider-Man aside, I can't help but wonder how a Stan Lee versus Iguana battle would play out.

Considering Beenox's track record with its previous Spider-Man games, it may be wise to keep an old adage in mind: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. That said, based purely on the footage released so far, it really does look as if the third time might be the charm for Beenox's Spider-Man efforts. Fingers crossed.

Ranters, are you looking forward to The Amazing Spider-Man? What do you think of Iguana?

The Amazing Spider-Man releases June 26, 2012, for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS, and DS.
