Every year there seems to be a new isekai released for fans to sink their teeth into, however very few end up standing the test of time and becoming popular amongst the fanbase. Among them is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Crunchyroll just announced that their movie That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond will be releasing in 2023 in US theaters. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, is an isekai anime about a man who died and was reincarnated in a fantasy world as a slime (The name is extremely accurate). It's based on the light novel by the author Fuse, and the story is another power fantasy with an overpowered protagonist. The movie was announced swiftly after the end of its second season and fans have been waiting for news on an American release since.

While the anime follows the adventures as they happen in the light novel, the movie will be an original story written by Fuse himself. Season three should follow after the film’s release, and it will more than likely pick up at volume 7. However, this story has no content to read so its a treat for anime only fans and readers alike

The first half of the trailer is about Rimuru offering a brief recap of the events which led to the position he is in now and what exactly is going on in the film. In the trailer he says, “A long-running conspiracy is swirling over a mysterious power known as “Queen” in Raja, a small country west of Tempest. When a slime who evolved into a Demon Lord named Rimuru Tempest crosses paths with Hiiro, a survivor of the Ogre race, an incredible adventure packed with new characters begins. The power of bonds will be put to the test!”. This ogre is allegedly Benimaru’s brother according to the trailers which add another totally new depth and layer to the story. There is not much action in there otherwise, and while there are many interesting visuals and effects, more details regarding the film remain a mystery.

An original story that was not in the light novels is sure to be something both readers and anime only fans can fully immerse themselves with. The story was written by Fuse himself so much of what happens will fit into the main story events while also offering new and accurate portrayals and character interactions that have not been seen. Its even possible the movie could foreshadow events that have yet to come within the series, meaning there is much to be excited about and look forward to when it comes to the release of the film. Expectations are most certainly high.

A new story could be refreshing for many, but others have grown tired of side stories or plots which don’t advance the main narrative. Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen both opted to use their time on the big screen to adapt stories already within the source material and performed exceptionally. While it may be new content for fans, years of dealing with filler and “non-canon’ material have left many uninterested with any story not part of the original mainline series. Still, with 8bit behind the animation, and the original voice actors set to return this story is sure to be a fun one for those tuning in to see it.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond comes to American theaters early 2023.
