That '90s Show is quickly nearing its release, and Netflix is taking the time to introduce audiences to the new generation of Point Place. While most of the characters appear to be unrelated to the previous cast, there are a few with some surprising connections to the old gang.

That '90s Show is a '90s set spin-off of That '70s Show. Just as That '70s Show centered on the teenage antics of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and his friends, That '90s Show focuses on his daughter, Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), and her new gang of friends as she visits her grandparents for the summer. Despite these parallels, the kids are all very different from their predecessors. While Eric's gang was a group of late Gen Xers, Leia's group is full of early Millennials.

Netflix unveiled some new character descriptions on its blog, Tudum. Naturally, first up on the roster is Leia. Born shortly after the end of That '70s Show, Leia needs help coming out of her shell and finds confidence in her new friend group. Like her father, she's not the coolest and she thinks her new friends are far cooler than she is. Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide) is the Formans' new neighbor, and much like Donna, she's political and rebellious. Her rebellious phase manifests as a passion for riot-grrrl music and politics (something that she and Red will likely disagree on).

Despite Mila Kunis calling BS on where Jackie and Kelso ended up, the two have a son, Jay Kelso (Mace Coronel). He's very much a Kelso in that he is carefree, charming, and flirty. Ozzie (Reyn Doi) is the insightful, snarky friend who's at home with his friends, and he just wishes the rest of the world was as accepting of him being gay as his friends are. Nikki (Sam Morelos) is focused, smart, and ambitious, and she wants to be a doctor someday. She loves her dopey, goofball, and sweet Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan), who's also Gwen's half-brother, though the two frequently bicker. Their mother, Sherri (Andrea Anders) is now the Forman's neighbor, who can be flighty and is "just trying her best."

The descriptions also welcome back the That '70s Show cast. Eric is now a dorky dad living in Chicago. He's still in love with Donna (Laura Prepon), they've married, and the two bring Leia to Point Place to visit, where she ends up staying for the summer. Jackie (Kunis) and Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) have resumed their on-again-off-again relationship and still live in Point Place. Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) is now something of a local celebrity in Point Place, having his own line of successful hair salons.

The adults of That '70s Show aren't neglected, either. Don Stark's Bob Pinciotti has returned, as goofy as ever. Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) has mellowed out as a grandmother and finds she gets along incredibly well with this new generation of kids. On the other hand, Red (Kurtwood Smith), ever-conservative, finds himself back in his 'foot in ass' ways once again.

That '90s Show drops on Netflix on January 19, 2023.
