The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of the all-time classic horror movies, but not one with very many video game adaptations. Fans will be getting up close and personal with Leatherface in the upcoming Texas Chain Saw Massacre multiplayer game.

Despite the franchise's legacy in the cinema, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has not frequented the video game scene until recently. Leatherface is an icon of the horror genre and has naturally been a great fit in a game like Dead by Daylight that revolves around monsters hunting human prey. There have been more outlandish appearances by the character though, such as in Call of Duty: Warzone as an Operator during its Haunting of Verdansk event, and Mortal Kombat X.

At The Game Awards 2021, Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham revealed The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a new multiplayer game based on the 1974 film. The trailer features many of the iconic images and shots that have lingered in the minds of many for all these years, from the desolate and foreboding exterior of the house to the dingy and unkept interiors. It may not be clear for some the material this game is based on until nearly the trailer's end, as someone hangs upside from the ceiling, blood dripping into a bucket when a shadowy figure begins revving their chainsaw, it being none other than Leatherface himself.

Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham's last title was the popular Friday the 13th: The Game multiplayer title. Like that game, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is an asymmetrical multiplayer title that will likely pit survivors against the chainsaw-wielding psychopath in a furious fight for survival. The developers are committed to accurately and authentically capturing the original 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre film and what has continued to make it scary to this day. Darren Campion, Executive Producer at Sumo Nottingham on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, speaks about their excitement, "The cult classic has been terrifying and spellbinding people for over 40 years and we’re thrilled with how the game is developing, we cannot wait for fans old and new to become part of this truly authentic experience."

While what the game will play like is still unknown, based on the trailer, its clear that Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham have an understanding of what a The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game should look like. The scenery of the game is nearly identical to that of the original film, from the environment to the lighting, evoking a similar fear that the film continues to do. If running from Jason in Friday the 13th: The Game was scary, running from Leatherface is going to be a whole other beast.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
