Leatherface is the poster child for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise and one of the most iconic cinema villains of all time, but he's far from being the only terrifying member of his family.

With a new game on the horizon poised to bring the horror of this classic franchise home, one can only wonder what notorious faces will make an appearance. They may not all have chainsaws or rotting flesh masks, but each in their own way is a compelling addition to the Texas mythos and would bring something special (and more than a little disturbing) to the game.

10 Tea Lady

The Sawyer/Hewitt family and their criminal accomplices are not known for their subtlety. Sledgehammers and chainsaws are the order of the day, after all. The Tea Lady (so-called because of her obsession with tea) breaks that rule.

Almost nothing is known about this enigmatic character, and how she fits into the family's grisly puzzle has been a point of fan speculation ever since she first appeared in the 2003 remake. Tea Lady's character was fleshed out in the Wildstorm comics, but so much about her remains unsettled that a video game could be the perfect place to give fans some long-awaited answers.

9 Edward "Tex" Sawyer

Not even the incredible Viggo Mortensen was enough to save Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III from being a "so bad it's good" film, but the shifty energy he brought to the role is undeniable. Leatherface's hitchhiking cowboy brother hates his real name and insists on being called "Tex."

He uses his comparatively normal appearance to lure his victims, and like his brother he seems comfortable breaking gender norms when it comes to his personal appearance. All of these qualities make him memorable, and he deserves more time in the spotlight, even if a substitute for Mortensen must be found.

8 Little Girl Sawyer

Another star of Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, "Little Girl Sawyer" delivers some of the film's most deranged moments. Various installments in the franchise have changed her identity from Leatherface's daughter to just another relative. What hasn't changed is her ability to haunt viewers' dreams.

Any child capable of carrying around a dead infant as a doll is truly the stuff of nightmares, and including any version of her in the new Texas Chain Saw game would deliver an instant jolt of terror to players. Evil children consistently provide some of the horror genre's biggest freakout moments, and Little Girl Sawyer is anything but an exception.

7 Old Monty Hewitt

2003'sTexas Chain Saw Massacre remake may not be one of the highest-grossing horror movies ever, but it packed in its share of awful moments. When Erin first enters the plantation house, it's Old Monty who summons Leatherface, saying "You're so dead, you don't even know it."

The franchise has a history of taking physically unimposing characters and imbuing them with terrifying potential, and Old Monty joins the Tea Lady and Little Girl Sawyer among those ranks. From the sinister hammering of his cane on the floor to his chilling glare, Old Monty is trauma waiting to happen.

6 Sheriff Hoyt/Charlie Hewitt

Closeup of Sheriff Hoyt from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Charlie Hewitt, better known by the false identity Sheriff Hoyt, is a horror of a separate breed from Leatherface. Whereas Leatherface is in some ways an empathetic character--abused by his family and in all likelihood suffering from a combination of developmental and psychiatric disorders--Sheriff Hoyt is just plain cruel.

An uncaring sadist, it's obvious from the way that Hoyt abuses his power and torments anyone under his thumb that the only thing he cares for is hurting others. Leatherface has a plethora of video game appearances to his credit, and Hoyt should appear beside him if only to put a different, more insidious face to evil.

5 Nubbins Sawyer (The Hitchhiker)

Nubbins hitchhiking in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

One of the most memorable incidents in Tobe Hooper's original Texas Chain Saw Massacre comes at the very beginning when the unwitting protagonists pick up a hitchhiker: Nubbins Sawyer.

Nubbins invites them to dinner, cuts his own hand with a knife, and takes a picture of Franklin only to slash him with a straight razor when Franklin refuses to buy it. The middle son of the Sawyer family, Nubbins is a cannibal and graverobber, responsible for creating the grotesque furniture and decorations around his family's house. Being at the center of key plot points as well as being the person responsible for the Sawyer home's infamous decor, Nubbins is indispensable.

4 Luda May Hewitt

The matriarch of the Hewitt family and mother of Sheriff Hoyt, Luda May runs the butcher shop where the Hewitt family sells the meat they've cleaved from their victims. Luda May has a bizarre sense of family pride and is highly protective of Leatherface, her son. Whereas previous films may have been black comedies and satires, Luda May's role plays it straight.

She wants her family to prosper, and if making sure that happens means killing and eating unsuspecting visitors, she's going to see to it that that's what happens. Her matronly appearance and demeanor paired with the repulsive nature of her work make Luda May a character with serious potential.

3 Grandpa Sawyer

Supercentenarian Grandpa Sawyer is an idol to the family, a master of the slaughterhouse business and implied mass murderer, now fed the blood of the Sawyer's victims to keep him alive despite his decrepit state.

The original film is replete with memorable images, but the dinner scene is one of the most infamous, in no small part because of Grandpa. Leatherface cuts Sally's finger so that Grandpa can drink her blood. The Sawyer boys then put a hammer in Grandpa's hand so that he can finish the job, which he proves incapable of doing due to his advanced age. Even unable to rise, Grandpa Sawyer is one of the most fearsome characters in the franchise.

2 Drayton Sawyer

Drayton Sawyer from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Also known as Cook and Old Man, in the original timeline, Drayton is the proprietor of a gas station and barbeque, though later revealed to be a coconspirator in the murders his family perpetrates. When he reappears in Texas Battle Land, the abandoned amusement park in the second film, he is even more deranged, having seemingly lost whatever semblance of control he once had.

While the original may be the superior film, seeing the devolution of Drayton's character added considerable depth and interest to the second film. The opportunity to see more of him in a game, at whatever stage of mental decline, would be welcome.

1 Chop Top

Chop Top at the radio station in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Leatherface's brother Chop Top, brought to terrifying life by Bill Moseley in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, is as much of a frightening patchwork as Leatherface's mask. A Vietnam War veteran who dresses like a hippie and proclaims "music is my life!" while terrorizing a DJ, Chop Top is strange, even by his family's standards.

It takes something special to appear menacing while wearing a Sonny Bono wig. His offputting laugh, erratic mannerisms, and penchant for violence combine to make Chop Top one of the most iconic villains in the franchise, and the only person better equipped to menace players is Leatherface himself.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
