When it comes to video game adaptations of horror movies, Friday the 13th: The Game stands tall above the rest as one of the best ones out there. While the asymmetric multiplayer horror game didn't exactly light the world on fire, it's still an impressive love letter to the Friday the 13th franchise, featuring a slew of memorable characters and locations, plus plenty of fan-pleasing Jason Voorhees skins. A new rumor making the rounds online suggests another classic slasher movie franchise is going to get the Friday the 13th treatment next, though fans should keep their expectations in check.

According to the rumor, Friday the 13th: The Game publisher Gun Media could be involved with a Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game. This rumor started when it was discovered that visiting leatherfacethegame.com redirects users to the Gun Media website. However, it must be stressed that it's entirely possible that someone completely unrelated to Gun Media purchased the leatherfacethegame.com domain and is having it redirect to Gun Media as a way to troll fans. Needless to say, Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans should take this with a grain of salt before they get too excited about the possibility of a Leatherface video game.

While it's entirely possible that this Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is fake, at the same time, it wouldn't be all that surprising if it turned out to be real. Gun Media found some success with Friday the 13th: The Game, so it would make sense for the company to pursue a similar project with a different horror franchise. Not only that, but a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie is coming to Netflix in the near future, and so a video game release would allow for some cross-promotion.

Leatherface Inspirations - Dead By Daylight Hillbilly Guide

Something else working in favor of this "leaked" Leatherface Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is some comments by actor Kane Hodder. Hodder is best known for portraying Jason Voorhees in various Friday the 13th films, and last year he confirmed that he's been doing motion capture work for a new horror game based on a different horror franchise. Hodder stopped short of confirming which horror franchise he was doing motion capture work for exactly, but if this rumored Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is real, perhaps it is it.

The final thing that makes this Texas Chainsaw Massacre rumor at least somewhat believable is that the rightsholders to the franchise have shown a willingness to bring Leatherface to video games already. Besides the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 80s video game, Leatherface has appeared in Mortal Kombat X and is a playable character in Dead by Daylight. Most recently, the Call of Duty: Warzone Halloween event featured Leatherface's house and the character was available as a skin players could buy for use in both Warzone and Modern Warfare.

Whether or not this Leatherface Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game is real or not remains to be seen, but fans should stay tuned to find out what horror game Kane Hodder has been working on and what's next from Gun Media.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is only rumored at this point.
