Compared to Nintendo’s decade, the PlayStation family had more disappointing spinoff sequels. By that we mean there was a lot of red to sift through on Metacritic. We could have easily made this into a bigger list. Some dishonorable mentions we didn’t include are Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia, Metal Gear Survive, Resistance: Burning Skies, and many others.

It was a decade full of spinoffs and not many made their mark on the world in a positive way. The ones that did though are legendary. To give another Metal Gear example, Metal Gear Rising was excellent and a spinoff worthy of a sequel. Anyway here are the spinoffs ranked from “best” to absolute worst.

10 Silent Hill: Book Of Memories (58)

The cancelation of Silent Hills was terrible for multiple reasons. One, the PT demo showed lots of promise besides being helmed by Hideo Kojima.

Two, Book of Memories was the last entry in the series as of 2012 and boy was that a sour note to leave the franchise on. It was an exclusive for the PS Vita and rather than creating a typical horror experience, it was more like a poorly planned out Diablo clone.

9 Fallout 76 (53)

For those that take glee in schadenfreude, Fallout 76 is the gift that keeps on giving. That is to say, a year later Bethesda still hasn’t course corrected the ship. It is awful to play, but an excellent game to view and read about from afar.

This past year, E3 made it seem like they had new ideas in store like NPCs and quests, but those updates have been delayed beyond 2019. Instead, they opened up dedicated servers for players to pay for. It is a glorious debacle.

8 Red Faction Battlegrounds (49)

The best part about the Red Faction games is their emphasis on destruction. Red Faction Guerrilla is the peak example of this. Does it look good as an open-world sandbox? No, but it's fun to blow stuff up and create so much chaos that even the Joker would blush. This digital-only spinoff, Battlegrounds, removes that flair and turned the game into a top-down vehicle shooter. It was the wrong move for this series.

7 Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (43)

After Ninja Gaiden 3 was a complete bust, the team at Koei Tecmo decided to try something different. Adding in more supernatural elements like zombies, getting a new ninja out there on the hunt for Ryu, along with the comic book styled cel-shading visuals all seemed like a good idea. Unfortunately, it didn’t have that crisp sense of control that the reboot series became known for. Despite the cool visuals, which actually did live up to the previews, the rest of the game is bland.

6 PlayStation Move Ape Escape (43)

Both Microsoft and Sony tried to steal the motion spotlight from the Wii. For example, Sony took some of their most prominent stars and tried to turn them into PlayStation Move games. Ape Escape was one such property, which on paper sounded great. The series is about catching monkeys with nets after all, so swinging a controller around should feel natural, right? Well, in this case, it wasn’t. It was more of a collection of mini-games and not a full-blown console experience. We’re still waiting for a proper Ape Escape 4 by the way Sony.

5 Escape Dead Island (40)

Dead Island has never exactly been a series synonymous with polish. Both the original and half-step sequel/expansion were buggy RPGs, but had a quality of mindless fun about them. Fun does not even enter the realm of Escape Dead Island. Instead of a first-person RPG, the series moved into a third-person perspective, but still kept the action the same. On top of that, some puzzle and survival elements were added. It’s really boring on top of it being a lot more glitchy, which makes those other two look like shimmering diamonds by comparison.

4 Dead or Alive Paradise (38)

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball started as a weird spinoff to the main fighting series. Despite the raunchy idea of taking care of an island full of ladies all willing to strip down into skimpy outfits, the actual volleyball portion was good. As this spinoff continued it became less and less about the sport and more heavily influenced by drooling boys hoping to catch a glimpse at a digital lady. That is all to say this PSP version is weak. A close second is the latest entry, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune, which scored a 43.

3 Left Alive (37)

Left Alive is not only one of the worst spinoffs of the decade, but it is one of the worst games of the year, or of all time. Simply put, it is a slap to the face for Front Mission fans. The last entry that came out before this was Front Mission Evolved in 2010, which was also a spinoff that turned the traditional tactical RPG into an action game. It was not terrible, but it also wasn’t good. Rather than learn their lesson, Square Enix thought maybe a survival game would win fans back. Not! What are they thinking over there?

2 Dead Space Ignition (36)

Dead Space was a pretty hot property at the start of this decade. It got sequels, comics, anime, and spinoffs all before burning out, never to be heard from again. Of all media, Dead Space Ignition was the worst thing EA put out. This digital exclusive is mostly a visual novel with some light puzzle elements. Said puzzles aren’t interesting and the story goes nowhere.

1 Call Of Duty: Black Ops Declassified (33)

To kick things off, here is a fun bonus fact about this game. Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, according to Metacritic, is the worst reviewed PS Vita game of all time. Need we say more? How can such a high profile property be given such poor treatment? Sure, the Vita’s control scheme and power could be partially blamed, but that is lazy. That portable rocked. The problem was that no one knew what to do with it and there isn’t a better example than this game.
