Terraria is one of those games that requires a lot of grind and exploration in order to take on some of the bigger challenges. It doesn't force players into a specific story path or hand feed them items as they accomplish tasks, instead giving free reign to those on the hunt for the top of the food chain gear.
Up close and personal melee weapons are the most effective way to deal big damage and lessen the effects of aim and range. Players don't have to worry about ammunition or mana, leaving players to dull out as much punishment as they can handle. Flairon is an especially effective weapon because of its combined projectiles and melee traits, taking the two best aspects of combat and making it even easier to take out even the most stubborn enemies.
5 Flairon
Delivering both direct damage and releasing projectiles at the same time, this ball and chain will come in handy in any situation that gives the player enough space to fire. Not affected by gravity and shooting at 102 mph, aim isn't even a must for those who struggle to hit their target. Although the head will inflict debuffs and provide a clearer path to the target, Flairon's bubbles are sure to hit and gradually increase the attack power for as long as it's deployed.
Able to penetrate one-block walls through toggling before it makes impact or standing close range and firing straight, this weapon becomes useful in every combat situation except short range battles. It's homing projectiles can hone in on a moving target while the player reels back the head to take another swing at direct impact. All this before even applying the Godly or Demonic modifiers that turn all it's attributes up a notch, becoming a versatile melee weapon that will take out most enemies.
4 Hard Mode Grind
Before even considering trying to get ahold of this flail, players will have to build their skills up and grind out the lower levels and build confidence in fighting the big bosses. The key to opening up this world is defeating the Wall Of Flesh for the first time, unlocking content that includes 2 completely new biomes that have to be contended with
Even then some intense resource collection and gear upgrading will be needed to prepare for the battle ahead, unless players want to use alternative tactics that require a lot less action with some more time. With things like the Beetle Armor, Death Sickle, and Ankh Shield being called for, it will take some time to both get used to the more challenging boss experience in Hard Mode and farm the items for the best run possible.
3 The Golem Boss
Even getting through the underground jungle area to approach Golem is a task, requiring the best pickaxes to get through the Chlorophyte and Lihzahrd Blocks. Hordes of enemies await before reaching the boss, though they won't be especially difficult to take out for the prepared player, it's important not to blow too much energy as there is a lot to make it through.
Even choosing where the player positions themselves when they summon the boss is a key to success, with careless characters taking heavy damage from the first attack. Though Golem's main body can't go through barriers, his limbs and head detach and will still need to be dodged throughout the fight. Destroying the fists first will make the fight much easier in the later stages, making it's zooming head much easier to dodge. Once defeated it will drop some heavy-hitting loot that will aid in the fight or fights with Duke Fishron to come.
2 Fish For The Duke
While throwing some line out into the ocean seems like an easy task, Duke Fishron won't bite on any old bait. Players will need the Golden or Lavaproof Bug Net to get the rare truffle worm, a bug that will only appear in Underground Glowing Mushroom Biomes. Once the bait is acquired, players only have to toss it into the ocean. As soon as the reel bobs, pulling in the line will cause Duke Fishron to appear from the water before attacking.
Those that want to really test their mettle can summon him in the world before Hard Mode, using the bait from Hard Mode to lure him in and challenge him before gathering any of the recommended gear. While it's an impressive feat, the only reason to do this is strictly for bragging rights and only makes the boss a much longer and annoying process.
1 Duke Fishron Battle
A fight that will keep the character within range of the mutant beast, those that decide to keep too much range will find Duke Fishron enraged and spam lunging at them while dealing double damage. Even in the first stage, his attacks will include spawning tornadoes that fling Sharkron's and bubbles that both debuff and deal 120 damage.
After half his health is gone, the boss will transform and deal way more damage while decreasing its defense. Making dodging the attacks and leaving it vulnerable for counter an especially important mechanic. This is the most dangerous stage that players have to endure, leading into the Duke's desperate third stage where he drops all defenses and becomes invisible. Continuously charging the player while gaining the potential to teleport behind the player before attacking. Defeating the boss only leaves a 20% drop rate for Flairon, meaning most players will have to have multiple fights before getting the powerhouse weapon.
