A must-get piece of equipment for any Terraria player is a set of wings. Items like Cloud In A Bottle serve similar purposes pre-hardmode, but past a certain point, why double jump when flight is an option instead?

Getting hold of these items will often take a bit of effort, but once they're attached to a player's back, soaring through the sky is an easy feat. On top of that, immunity to fall damage is a huge boon, as that is one of the game's biggest killers before the Wall of Flesh is defeated. Like everything in Terraria, though, better wings become available as the player progresses, and they're all worth going out of the way for an upgrade.

10 Spooky Wings - A Bat In The Night

Terraria Spooky Wings

Players who like to swoop undetected through the night sky will be fans of the Spooky Wings, which are all about blending into the dark. One of several event wings, these wings will get players 107 tiles in the air on PC (91 on consoles) when let loose.

Obtaining them isn't too difficult compared to many other wings. Like most wings, they require Souls of Flight to craft, which just require killing some Wyverns. However, the Spooky Twig is a bit trickier. This item is a drop from the Mourning Wood mini-boss that only spawns during the Pumpkin Moon event.

9 Steampunk Wings - Steam Powered

Terraria Steampunk Wings

A somewhat under-used aesthetic in games, Steampunk wings are one of the cooler-looking wing sets out there. Stats-wise, they are equal to the seasonal event wings, as they can carry players a maximum of 107 tiles upward on PC (91 on consoles).

Obtaining them is much easier than the seasonal events, though. The wings are sold by the Steampunker NPC, who appears after the player has defeated at least one mechanical boss. They won't sell the wings immediately, however, as the player must first defeat the Golem boss.

8 Betsy's Wings - Literal Dragon Wings

Terraria Betsy's Wings

What's cooler than slaying a dragon? Ripping the wings off of said dragon and using them as tools of flight. These wings will propel players a maximum of 119 tiles into the air at a slightly more leisurely pace than most.

They're not the easiest wings to obtain, though, as has been mentioned, the wings belong to an actual dragon that needs slaying. Betsy will spawn during the final wave of the Old One's Army event, one of the game's more challenging events. Betsy has a 25% chance to drop the wings when killed, so it may take a few attempts.

7 Empress Wings - Ultimate Fairy Wings

Terraria Empress Wings

A PC & Mobile exclusive boss, The Empress Of Light was added in the 1.4 update to Terraria in 2020. They are an extremely tough boss, as even summoning them can be a pain as a player has to kill a rare Prismatic Lacewing critter at night.

Even when players defeat her, it may be all for naught, as the wings only have a 6.67% chance of dropping. It's worth the effort, though, as the wings can help players soar 128 tiles into the air at a higher than average speed compared to most wings.

6 Nebula Mantle - Slow & Steady

Terraria Nebula Mantle

The first of four wings made from the different types of Lunar Fragments, the Nebula Mantle aren't the most efficient. They will carry players 143 tiles into the air on PC (106 on console), but their below-average speed makes them more a leisure pursuit than anything super useful for combat situations.

Obtaining them isn't easy either. First, players must destroy the Nebular Pilla to get the Nebula Fragments. They must also destroy the other three Lunar Pillars to summon the Moon Lord. Defeating him will drop the Luminite required for the Luminite Bars needed to craft these wings.

5 Vortex Booster - Jetpack Race

Terraria Vortex Booster

The second of the wings made from Lunar Fragments, the Vortex Booster is functionally identical to the Nebula Mantle. It boosts the player a maximum of 143 tiles into the sky on PC (106 on console), but it has the downside of a below-average speed.

So why pick them over the Nebula Mantle? Because it's unique in that it's a jetpack, rather than wings, which is cool. Obtaining it is the same as all the Lunar Pillar wings, except the Vortex Booster requires Vortex Fragments & Luminite Bars.

4 Fishron Wings - Fish Have Wings?

Terraria Fishron Wings

While the community has found plenty of ways to deal with him over the years, Duke Fishron is a notoriously difficult boss. Summoning him requires finding a Truffle Worm in a rare Mushroom Biome then using it as bait while fishing in the ocean. Doing so will unleash this winged pig/tiger/fish hybrid upon the world.

Slaying this beast grants a 6.67% chance of getting the Fishron Wings, which are the best wings available pre-Moon Lord. They match the first two of the Lunar Fragment wings in height, with a maximum of 143 tiles. However, their advantage is that they are much faster getting there.

3 Stardust Wings - The Flying With The Stars Themselves

Terraria Stardust Wings

The third of the Lunar Fragment wings, this time the recipe calls from Luminite Bars and Stardust Fragments, so players will need to put their Moon Lord slaying shoes back on for this one. After they've taken down all of the pillars, of course.

These wings are an improvement on the first two sets of Lunar Fragment wings, as these wings can carry players 167 tiles into the air. On top of that, they are tied as the fastest wings in the game, making them highly maneuverable in combat.

2 Solar Wings - Probably Quite Hot

Terraria Solar Wings

The fourth and final set of Lunar Fragment wings, these require destroying arguably the toughest of the Lunar Pillars, the Solar Pillar. That's probably because the Solar Pillar being a Lunar Pillar is hilariously contradictory. Either way, combining Solar Fragments with Luminite Bars will craft these wings.

They are identical to the Stardust Wings from a functional standpoint. They carry players 167 tiles skyward and are tied as the fastest available. With a much grander look and greater wingspan, they arguably look cooler as a cosmetic item, making them the best of the four Lunar Fragment wings.

1 Celestial Starboard - Become A Shooting Star

Terraria Celestial Starboard

By far the best wings available in the game, but easily the most difficult to get hold of. Their stats are unparalleled, with the potential to carry players 201 tiles upwards. It's just one notch below the Solar & Stardust wings in the speed department. However, it has the ability to hover in the air and be moves left & right.

The catch is that Normal Mode players will never be able to get this item. To get it, players must defeat the Moon Lord on either Expert or Master Mode; more difficult modes to play the game on where everything hits harder and has more health. The good news is that it's a guaranteed drop in the Moon Lord's Treasure Bag, so players will only need to do it once.
