It doesn't take a veteran gamer to realize that a Blood Moon and crimson water are bad signs in the survival game Terraria. These ominous occurrences are an indication of previously hidden horrors becoming closer than ever, which will make some players head home to call it a night, however, the boldest adventurers do the opposite.

During a Blood Moon, there are some rare and deadly creatures that can only be encountered by fishing, though, be warned, as these won't be tasty morsels but beasts willing to make a meal out of players! One such sea fiend is the Wandering Eye Fish, which, despite its size, can pose a real threat to players due to its high stats. Players will need to come up with novel strategies to fell this foul foe, lest they succumb to the red tide under the Blood Moon of Terraria.

How To Reel In A Wandering Eye Fish

As mentioned above, Wandering Eye Fish can only be encountered while fishing during a Blood Moon. Simply dip one's line into the crimson water and wait for a bite from below. The odds of catching a Wandering Eye Fish like this are not what one would call "high" due to other horrors of the abyss being able to be caught by similar means, such as the mighty Zombie Merman or the deadly Dreadnautilus. However, finding a Wandering Eye Fish by this means will occur more often than with other Blood Moon fishing fiends.

What The Wandering Eye Fish Does In Combat

With high HP, solid Defense, the ability to fly around quickly, and being immune to Knockback, this relatively small enemy is a true menace to deal with under normal circumstances. Most players will likely have a hard time landing hits, and, when they do, the damage one deals against this ocular enemy will be somewhat low unless the adventurer possesses powerful weaponry.

The Wandering Eye Fish will attack by flying at the player and striking them with its body in furious melee charges, though, thankfully, does not possess any other kinds of attacks, making it very predictable. This is what players will need to take advantage of in order to defeat this powerful flying fish.

Best Strategies For Beating The Wandering Eye Fish

It is not recommended to be in an enclosed area when fighting the Wandering Eye Fish, as it can easily outmaneuver the player and can rack up a ton of hits in a small space, so fighting it outdoors is far safer.

The first tactic involves building a simple anti-Wandering Eye Fish structure. Despite being capable of true flight, the Wandering Eye Fish can get stuck on objects surprisingly easily, particularly ledges. To trap a Wandering Eye Fish with minimal effort, build a vertical structure and then craft a ledge of some sort with some flooring to form a right angle. Bait the foe by standing on top of the ledge and the Wandering Eye Fish will likely get stuck in the little nook due to its pathing drawing it directly toward the player. Furthermore, despite its speed, this blood-borne fish has a poor turning radius that results in them being unable to navigate around the simple ledge, turning them into a sitting duck for players to strike at will with no repercussions.

Another great way to beat the Wandering Eye Fish is to make use of a Slime Saddle to perform a similar pathing-abuse method as above, though while likely doing much more direct damage in a short period of time. When players use a Slime Saddle, they will summon a Slime Mount beneath them. When the Slime Mount lands on anything, it will deal 40 damage, which can be greatly effective against the simple AI of certain flying enemies. Since the Wandering Eye Fish will continuously try to fly upward at the player, having a Slime Mount underneath oneself will result in adventurers being able to repeatedly bounce on top of a Wandering Eye Fish while it willingly rams itself into the underside of the summoned Slime ally. In a short time, this will allow players to literally crush the Wandering Eye Fish beneath them for a resounding victory over this bloody horror.
