Under a Blood Moon in Terraria, players can encounter some of the fiercest foes in the game. One of these powerful creatures is the Blood Eel, which can erupt out of the tide to assault players from both below and above due to its mastery of flight. Their speed and power can be difficult for players to counter, even under optimal conditions.

However, the Blood Eel still has some weaknesses that Terraria players can take advantage of if they plan accordingly. As usual, when facing down powerful enemies in this survival game, preparation can be the best weapon.

The Blood Eel is one of the few enemies that can only be found by fishing while a Blood Moon is in the sky. The others that can be found this way are the Hemogoblin Shark, the Wandering Eye Fish, the Zombie Merman, and the Dreadnautilus. Despite this fearsome line-up possessing quite a few members, all of their spawn rates are relatively low, meaning that players will likely have to try for a while to spawn any of them.

Furthermore, there isn't a specific way to get a Blood Eel to spawn over the others, so players may have to tangle with other mighty adversaries before this serpentine enemy rears its head.

The Blood Eel's Body & Attacks

Unlike the other Blood Moon fishing event enemies, the Blood Eel's body is very long and segmented into different portions that each have varying Damage and Defense stats.

It will use all parts of its body to hurt the player, though in a very simplistic manner. The only true attack the Blood Eel has in its arsenal is to charge wantonly at the player to hit them with any part of its body that comes close, though, it will specifically always charge head-first, meaning that this body segment is the main damage-dealing portion.

It should be noted that despite each body segment possessing its own Damage and Defense stats, all segments share the same HP bar, meaning that players cannot destroy or sever segments. The only way to take down the Blood Eel is to use completely deplete its life bar while all segments are still intact.

Best Strategies For Beating The Blood Eel

The multiple body segments may seem like it can complicate matters when fighting the Blood Eel, however, the fact that it has 3 different body pieces and a single HP bar means that players can potentially deal 3 times the damage to this fast fiend if they use the right weapon.

Armaments that can pierce through foes, such as certain kinds of arrows, can be greatly helpful against the Blood Eel. Those wishing to use such attack methods should try to shoot at the Blood Eel as it rushes forward; the goal is to shoot arrows that pierce the head and then travel through the body and tail segments as well. This will deal almost triple the damage but players should remember that each segment has different Defense stats, so the HP lost from each segment being injured will differ.

Another great method for hurting multiple body segments of the Blood Eel simultaneously is to make use of the plentiful explosives that can be found in Terraria, such as grenades and explosive bullets. Such battlefield tools can perform the same function as piercing weapons, though potentially with an easier application. With explosions, players don't need to line up a shot; only spam explosives at the ground when the Blood Eel performs one of its predictable charge attacks. Even if players don't have the best timing, multiple grenades or explosive rounds going off can take massive chunks out of the Blood Eel each time that it passes by. Soon, with enough explosives, the beast will be blown apart.
