Terraria recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Terraria has received an incredible amount of updates and new content over those 10 years and has grown a dedicated community around itself in the process.

For those who don't know, Terraria is a side-scrolling survival game that sees players exploring a procedurally generated world to discover resources, craft equipment, build structures, and take down massive bosses. Terraria has a lot of great bosses and has grown to be incredibly big with a lot of different systems, activities, and biomes for players to explore and experiment with. Of course, any game as large as Terraria has become has had a lot of ideas and content that were cut or never made it into the game.

While Terraria already celebrated its anniversary by releasing a unique world seed for players to use, its developer Re-Logic also hosted an AMA on the game's subreddit to answer fan's questions on the game. The AMA revealed a lot of the content that never quite made the cut. One interesting feature mentioned by creator Andrew Spinks was to include pistons in Terraria to allow players to build moving structures, but the idea was too difficult in the game's engine.

Another reply by a developer using the Reddit username Yoraiz0r comments on Terraria's infamous First Fractal sword that was meant to be the ultimate weapon in the game but was eventually scrapped because it didn't feel satisfying enough to use. However, the First Fractal's code can still be found in Terraria. The thread also hosts Spinks commenting on the game's cut Swamp, Hell, and Candy biomes. They say that the Swamp biome was going to be an alternative to the Jungle but was cut for requiring too much work with little pay-off. Spinks also says the Candy biome would have worked similarly to the Crimson and Corrupted biome that are a unique part of Terraria.

The AMA is also filled with a lot of other great insights from the development team for any Terraria fans. While the latest major update for Terraria is supposedly the last, the developers are rather cheeky in the comments of the AMA when asked whether or not that is true. It is impressive how far Terraria has come over the past 10 years, and while whether or not Terraria is done receiving major updates remains to be seen, it will be exciting to see what the future holds for Re-Logic as it moves forward.

Terraria is available now on Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
