Terraria is due to receive yet another big content update sometime in 2023, according to the latest word from developer Re-Logic. Infamous for receiving one "final" content update after another, the game's 1.4.4 version was supposed to be the grand finale for the iconic indie blockbuster. Terraria veterans will have known, however, that Re-Logic is keen on adding more to the game, time and again.

One thing that makes Terraria particularly noteworthy is that it often collaborates with a variety of other modern indie classics. Content update 1.4.4, for example, added a slew of Stardew Valley items to the game, granting fans of both titles a bit of a fun crossover to participate in. It's not strange, then, that Terraria's own characters, weapons, and other assorted content would make their way into other indie titles, which is precisely what may have spurred this new announcement in the first place.

Dead Cells has had a very eventful 2022 up until now, but its latest content update — Everyone Is Here Vol. 2 — has been a particularly noteworthy highlight. One of the new playable characters is Terraria's own Guide, specifically. To celebrate the two games' latest collaboration, Re-Logic came up with its own announcement: Terraria 1.4.5 is coming sometime in 2023, and at least a portion of its content will be a direct crossover from Dead Cells itself. Furthermore, Re-Logic also hinted that 2023 may be the year that the game finally receives crossplay support, though this is not confirmed yet.

Dead Cells' new update highlight trailer has a section dedicated to Terraria's Guide NPC, and since this is such a noteworthy addition, it seems possible that Terraria 1.4.5 may include a sizeable chunk of Dead Cells' own content once it comes out. If Re-Logic's track record is anything to go by, players may be looking at something similar to this year's Labor of Love update for Terraria, which was quite hefty indeed.

It was in 2021 that Terraria devs spoke about cut content on Reddit, mentioning in passing that update 1.4 would probably be the game's final update. The devs had said the same thing about a number of previous content updates, however, with them coming back to work on Terraria over and over again. Something similar happened once again with update 1.4.4, and with 1.4.5 now announced for 2023, development is clearly still trucking along.

Earlier this year, Terraria celebrated maintaining an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam with over one million reviews, becoming the first game to achieve this milestone. This speaks volumes about the game's community, and it's not overly surprising that Re-Logic would want to keep working on a project as well regarded as this.

Terraria is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
