Microsoft has changed up the way it does Xbox Game Pass quests, no longer simply tasking players with unlocking achievements in certain games. Now players have to complete specific tasks in these games, with new tasks and new games assigned each week and month. The longer tasks are assigned as monthly quests, and one of the March 2020 monthly quests is to collect 1,000 resources in Terraria.

Terraria, for the uninitiated, has been described as a combination of Metroid and Minecraft. One of the game's main features is to explore a 2D, side-scrolling world, collecting resources and crafting new items along the way. 1,000 resources is quite a lot to collect in Terraria, and while it may be time-consuming, it shouldn't be as difficult as some of the Xbox Game Pass quests happen to be.

However, there is a quirk to the Terraria resource collecting Game Pass quest, and that is that wood does not seem to count toward the total. This has been confirmed by TrueAchievements as well as our own testing. It's unclear if this is deliberate or a bug, but at the time of this writing, Terraria players will have to collect other resources if they hope to hit 1,000.

According to TrueAchievements, the best way to complete this Terraria quest since wood does not count is to dig into the ground for about five or six layers. At that point, players simply need to pick a direction left or right and hold in the right trigger. Their character should keep digging through the dirt, collecting dirt itself as well as ores and other resources along the way. All of these resources should count toward the total, and after a bit, players should have the 1,000 resources necessary to complete the Terraria Game Pass Quest.

Of course, those that don't want to just collect resources for the sake of collecting resources could just play the game normally. Terraria earned strong reviews at the time of its launch nearly a decade ago, and the game has only improved since then. Players have an entire month to complete the quest as well, so they don't necessarily need to rush.

There are plenty of other Xbox Game Pass games to try out, including some new Game Pass games for March 2020, so Xbox gamers should have plenty to play this month.

Terraria is out now for a variety of platforms.
