Capcom announces Teppen, a new digital card fighting game that stars characters from several of the company's biggest series. The game has characters such as Street Fighter brawler Ryu and Mega Man, the protagonist of the eponymous sci-fi shooter and platforming series.

After sending out invites to influencers to play a secretive game called "Project Battle," Capcom has now officially announced Teppen. Available on iOS and Android devices, Teppen features real-time battles with cards of various characters from Capcom series. The trailer shows how players get an "MP Gauge," which fills up and allows them to place cards on the battlefield, and these characters then have attack and defense points. Players can choose a hero, such as Chun-Li and Mega Man, and then add characters, such as Street Fighter's Zangief and Ryu, to their decks to take down opponents.

Teppen is just the latest card battle game from a major publisher. Blizzard's Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has characters from across the Warcraft series. There's also Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, which stars The Witcher characters like Geralt and Ciri, and Bethesda has also released The Elder Scrolls: Legends. Games like Teppen can appeal to fans who enjoy the different series featured in them as well as players who just want a more tactical experience.

How Teppen differs from these other card battle games, though, and how the new Capcom game will stand out, is that its battles are in real-time. The mobile game is still strategic, but players seem to have much less time to figure out their next move, when compared to something like Hearthstone.

Teppen also has a story mode, with characters like Street Fighter's Ryu and Chun-Li, Resident Evil's Albert Wesker, Devil May Cry's Dante, and Monster Hunter World's Nergigante and Rathalos all having to "battle through the Land of Illusion to find the truth." Some other card games do have story modes, such as the Thronebreaker campaign for Gwent, but Teppen seems to put more importance on it.

Having only just been released, it's unclear how successful Teppen will be, and how much money Capcom will make from it. Teppen does have microtransactions, as players can spend real money to unlock card packs and get new cards for their deck. Hearthstone was making $20 million a month by using this business model, but it remains to be seen if Teppen can make that much.

Teppen is available on Android and iOS devices.
