Tenet has had an exciting past 24 hours, as the Christopher Nolan mind-bending action film just dropped its second trailer. That the trailer debuted in the battle royale game Fortnite has only amplified its reach, but since then, the focus has been entirely on when Tenet will reach theaters. And while Warner Bros. has now confirmed a date, speculation likely won't slow.

The issue is that theaters across the United States are closed. That said, many, including AMC Theaters, believe theaters will open with Tenet's launch. That's because Tenet's release date is July 17, the nearest film release currently scheduled by a major film production company. Tenet's production company, Warner Bros., has now reconfirmed that release date.

Yet many remain skeptical that Tenet will launch July 17. It could even be said that Warner Bros. and the Tenet team are skeptical, too. The film's new trailer doesn't include a release date at its end. Instead, it simply states that it's "Coming to Theaters." Warner Bros. confirmation of the July 17 date may simply be acknowledging the previously set date. Its nonpublic plans, however, may trend more toward a delay.

If Tenet is delayed out of July, it could set off a domino effect leading to another massive delay for theaters reopening not just in the US but worldwide. Launching in July as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, however, may be a riskier endeavor by far. There's simply no easy answer for the film industry.

Tenet remains scheduled to release in theaters on July 17.
