Crema Games recently announced its tentative roadmaps for Temtem's future, and the details not only mentioned the game's full-release window for home consoles but two new features that Crema hopes to implement into it at that time: cross-play and cross-save.

Crema expects to have Temtem ready for launch on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch by the time the game leaves Early Access, which will happen with an update titled "1.0." And, according to its Mid-term roadmap, the developer expects this update to occur sometime during Spring 2021, which gives Crema a little over a year to figure out how to make certain ideas it wants in the game to happen, such as the aforementioned cross-play and cross-save features.

However, according to Crema, both of these potential Temtem features pose their own challenges regarding their installations. Achieving Cross-Play between all the consoles, for example, can only be done if the original console holders agree to it. Otherwise, Crema risks running into legal issues.

Aside from that, though, programming the feature into the game would be a fairly simple task. Crema already has cross-play enabled between Discord and Steam Temtem players, and would just use the same system to set up the other platforms. There's also a high chance that Crema will receive the permissions it needs because home consoles have been fairly open-minded about cross-play these days.

Cross-save, on the other hand, will be a little trickier. For starters, it runs into the same obstacles that cross-play does: If Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo don't want to cooperate, then Temtem won't be able to feature it. And unlike cross-play, technical issues make programming cross-save more challenging. Crema would need to figure out how to make every individual player's account available across every platform, which would require something like a "custom" login-system.

The way Crema explains it, players don't have "real" Temtem accounts or accounts existing on something like a personal login server for the game. What they have instead is save data associated with their Discord or Steam accounts. So, to preserve this data when installing the cross-save system, Crema needs to figure out how to link the individual accounts together.

Luckily, the developer is fairly confident in its abilities to work out the kinks and make the system work. All it really needs is the go-ahead from the home console holders.

Temtem's Early Access is available now on PC through Steam and Discord. Console ports are expected in Spring 2021.
