The Wolf Among Us Announced

It’s been over a year since Telltale Games revealed they had an adaptation of the comic series Fables in the works. Since then, the developer has blown away critics and gamers alike with their work on The Walking Dead, earning dozens of accolades in the process.

And so, it's with a renewed enthusiasm that we bring new details regarding Fables. Specifically, we have an official title for the game and a first look image.

While we don't know too much about the Fables game at this point, we now know it will be titled The Wolf Among Us. The title is likely a reference to the character of Bigby Wolf, a private detective/security agent in the world of Fables who is tasked with protecting the series' cast of iconic fairy tale characters.

IGN has secured the first piece of promotional art for the game, which shows Bigby and the game's title, as realized in a very Telltale-appropriate art style. There are touches of The Walking Dead seen in the image (featured below), but hopefully there's still plenty to make this game unique.

While Telltale could have easily adapted Fables whole cloth — borrowed storylines straight from Bill Willingham's comics — they are apparently setting out on a new path. Like with The Walking Dead, they want to use the comics as inspiration while telling stories they are interested in. And it just so happens that Bigby Wolf is a great vessel through which players can experience said stories.

“Developing The Wolf Among Us based on the Fables universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players. Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks.”

Telltale promises to have more details regarding The Wolf Among Us in the coming weeks, hopefully some official screenshots if not a trailer. In the mean time we recommend reading some issues of Fables, both to get a sense for what Telltale is working with and to check out a really unique graphic novel series.

What do you think of The Wolf Among Us? Would you like to see Telltale follow the comic's storylines or create their own?
