All the way back in 2015, it was confirmed that Telltale’s Game of Thrones would get a second season. But as the popular episodic game company releases titles such as Minecraft: Story Mode and The Wolf Among Us, Telltale has been silent on what Game of Thrones season two might offer, with fans left wondering what’s going on.

In a new interview Job Stauffer, the head of creative communications at Telltale, reveals that the developer’s Game of Thrones series is “on hold.” Stauffer explains that “we haven’t announced it, which does not mean it’s never coming,” but says that Telltale is eager to explore its other franchises, including season two of its Batman series, before it jumps back in.

Telltale will also be waiting to see “where things go” with the narrative of the Games of Thrones television show before coming “back to the table with something we’re excited about.” Stauffer declined to reveal whether Telltale’s Game of Thrones season two would include different characters to the first season and it’s also “too soon” to reveal when the follow up might be available. However, fans shouldn’t expect it until after the next installments of The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead have shipped, at least.

Later in the interview, Stauffer seems to backtrack on his earlier comments, saying that suggesting that Telltale’s Game of Thrones is on hold is “alarmist and crazy.” The communications head then adds that “the time just isn’t right for us to go back to Game of Thrones yet” and that Telltale still has to ‘determine’ when development on the series will continue.

Although Telltale’s Game of Thrones series didn’t always hit the right notes, fans will surely be disappointed to learn that the second series could be a long way off. A season two would allow Telltale to right its wrongs and deliver a phenomenal experience right as the final season of Game of Thrones is airing.

The news about Telltale’s series also follows several other disappointing Game of Thrones reveals. Not only did the rumors about a Bethesda Game of Thrones game prove to be false, but there is some speculation that fans will have to wait even longer for the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones to air. Fans have no other choice but to put up with a Westeros drought.

The entire first season of Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series is out now for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and various mobile devices.
