Telltale is announcing that Batman's first season will come to a close on December 13 with the launch of Episode 5, as the Children of Arkham's plan concludes.

Telltale's Batman series is rapidly approaching the conclusion of its first season, with the release of its fifth and final episode. Episode 5: City of Light will be launching on December 13 across all supported platforms, according to an announcement made by Telltale earlier today. With Episode 4 launching in late November, a mid-December launch for Episode 5 should appease players anxiously anticipating a conclusion to Batman's action packed adventure.

In City of Light, the arc revolving around the mysterious Children of Arkham will come to its fruition, as Telltale describes in its official summary of the finale:

"In Episode 5, the leader of the Children of Arkham prepares to execute the final act of a plan to destroy the Wayne family name, and the people closest to you are in their path of vengeance. Can Batman's ultimate secret be kept - his very identity - when it is causing chaos and death in Gotham? The fate of the Wayne family and of the city itself rests on your choices. What will you do? How far will you go? Which mask will you wear?"

Telltale also went out of its way to note that players of Episode 4 will find themselves in dramatically different places at the start of Episode 5, depending on their choices. How those branching paths lead into the season's ending will be an interesting topic of discussion. It's difficult to picture diverging endings in Batman compared to a game like The Walking Dead, where characters die constantly. Perhaps each path in Batman gives a better picture of the mysteries of the season.

To celebrate the end of Batman's first season, Telltale is providing a gift to those who may not have tried the game out just yet. Episode one of Batman - The Telltale Series is now available for free on PC, via Steam. This is becoming an increasingly common event for Telltale, to grab a wider audience for a game as the season is coming to a close. It's a great way to bring attention back to the game, especially for all those gamers who prefer to buy the whole game once it's all available rather than wait episode by episode.

That the episode is coming out for free on PC first is also a way to grab attention for something else Telltale has put together. Out now is a brand new patch for the PC version of Batman. Here's a brief description of what's included in the patch:

"Telltale has also released a performance patch for BATMAN - The Telltale Series on Steam, updating the game to support a wider range of PC configurations and address some of the concerns we heard when the game launched earlier this year. This patch contains significant performance improvements as well as adding numerous performance settings to allow users to customize the game for their systems."

Many PC players of Batman have had technical issues with the game since its launch in August. Most of the complaints revolved around optimization issues like frame-rate drops, and also sudden crashes. Hopefully the additional performance settings will allow players to figure out what might be causing their computer issues so they can disable the offending options and play without worry.

Batman - The Telltale Series's fifth episode, titled City of Light, will launch on December 13 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS and Android platforms. Episode 1: Realm of Shadows is available now for free via Steam.
