Some might say we're currently in the golden age of television. Television isn't like it used to be, modern shows feature a-list actors, cinematography that can be seen in the greatest of films, and incredible special effects. With the rise of streaming services, there's more television series than ever before.

Unfortunately with this large flux of content, it means that more shows are ending too. 2022 saw the end of some great series like Ozark, Killing Eve, and Peaky Blinders. Hopefully 2023 won't see the same number of shows ending, but it's inevitable that some will see their final episode this year.

7 The Flash

The Flash first premiered in 2014 and is set to air its final season almost ten years later. The show was developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns and stars Grant Gustin as the show's lead, Barry Allen. Barry Allen is a scientist who was gifted the power of super speed from a lightning strike.

The show sees him learning to use his powers to stop super powered villains from doing evil. It was the second series released in the CW's Arrow universe of DC Comic characters and has been beloved by fans of the franchise for years.

6 The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is set to air its fifth and final season in 2023. The show premiered in 2017 on Amazon Prime and was developed by Amy Sherman-Palladino. The series stars Rachel Brosnahan as the titular lead and is a comedic period piece set in the 1950s.

Mrs. Maisel is a young wife and mother married to a standup comic. After her husband has a bad night on stage, he leaves her for his secretary. Maisel then decides to return to the stage where he failed and discovers she has a knack for standup comedy. The series follows her experiences as a female comedian in a time of misogyny and intolerance.

5 Riverdale

Another CW series ending in 2023 is Riverdale. Riverdale aired its first episode in 2017 and has been through seven seasons of drama since then. The series is based on Archie Comics and was developed by the comics' chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

It is an American crime show filled with an ensemble cast of characters and elements of supernatural horror. The show begins with a teenager being murdered in the small town of Riverdale and follows a group of local teenagers trying to uncover the evil mystery lurking in this town. It stars KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes.

4 The Handmaid's Tale

The Handmaid's Tale premiered in 2017 and is airing its sixth and final season this year. The series was developed for television by Bruce Miller and is based on the book by Margaret Atwood. Handmaid's Tale is a dystopian drama starring Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne aka Offred.

June lives in a world where America has fallen to a civil war and is now known as Gilead. Gilead is a totalitarian regime organized by religious fanaticism and power hungry leaders. In this world fertility rates are extremely low and woman are brutally subjugated. Some woman are given the role of handmaiden and are forced to bare children for men in power. The handmaiden June must escape this evil dystopia and return to her husband and child.

3 Star Trek: Picard

Star Trek: Picard is a Paramount Plus show that first aired in 2020 as a part of their new expanded Star Trek universe. The series was developed by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer, and Alex Kurtzman and stars Patrick Stewart as the shows lead. Star Trek: Picard is a continuation of Jean-Luc Picard's story of captain of the Enterprise featured in Star Trek: The Next Generation and other films.

Over 20 years since his last appearance, Picard is now retired and living at his family's vineyard. After being visited by his fallen comrade Data's daughter, Picard is drawn back into the world of space adventures. Star Trek: Picard has only aired for three seasons, but fans have been pleased with its run and hope to see Captain Picard again one day.

2 The Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy is another superhero show created for Netflix by Steve Blackman. The series premiered in 2019 and will air its fourth and final season in 2023. The series stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, and Aidan Gallagher as the members of The Umbrella Academy.

The series is set in a universe where 43 woman gave birth simultaneously in 1989 after showing no signs of pregnancy. Seven of these children were adopted by billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, and he turned them into a superhero team called the Umbrella Academy. The show follows them as they learn to fight crime and deal with their super powered livelihoods.

1 Stranger Things

Stranger Things will air its fifth and final season this year after first premiering in 2016. The series was created for Netflix by a duo known as the Duffer brothers. The series stars Millie Bobbie Brown, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, and many others in 1980s America.

After their friend disappears, three kids unravel a mystery involving evil science experiments, a parallel dimension, and a girl with special powers named Eleven. The show has since followed them as they grow older and deal with other supernatural threats. Stranger Things has been a global phenomenon and fans are more than excited to see its epic finale this year.
