After recently being named one of the top 10 best-selling titles in digital game sales for PS4 in June 2017, Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Tekken 7 has now taken the number one spot on the NPD Group’s overall software sales charts for the month. Although the fighting game has technically been out for quite some time now before launching on PC and consoles – it was originally an arcade title – its positive performance in the market shows that the genre is still alive and kicking.

Directly following Tekken 7 on the NPD Group’s list of the best selling games for June 2017 is NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive’s Injustice 2, as the DC Comics fighting game takes the second spot for the month. This seems to further indicate gaming fans’ craving for more releases in the genre, so it will be interesting to see how Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite fares in sales when it launches later this year.

While Tekken 7 and Injustice 2 point toward the enduring popularity of fighting games, it’s also interesting to see Grand Theft Auto 5 still holding strong in the top 10 for game sales long after its 2013 release, as the Rockstar Games title slides into the third slot. Additionally, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy lands a respectable position at number four, especially considering the fact that it was only available for the last two days of June. Fans interested in the rest of the top 10 can find it in full below, but it must be mentioned that those marked with an asterisk are not indicative of digital sales, and those with a double asterisk do not include digital PC sales through Blizzard.

  1. Tekken 7
  2. Injustice 2
  3. Grand Theft Auto 5
  4. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
  5. Arms*
  6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild*
  7. Mario Kart 8*
  8. Overwatch**
  9. NBA 2K17
  10. Horizon Zero Dawn

Although Tekken 7 remains the sales champion for the time being, next month could see the title fall from the top of the heap, as highly anticipated releases like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle drop in August for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, respectively. Of course, with Grand Theft Auto 5 continuing to sell well, even Rockstar Games’ open world title has a shot at nabbing the number one spot if people keep purchasing it.

Tekken 7 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
