There are 16 levels in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, making it a relatively quick adventure. This should come as no surprise as most brawlers tend to be short. Even though this game adds in a ton of modern mechanics, like leveling up and side quests, it still falls on the shorter side of things.

Even though Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge isn’t long, it is packed full of great content. There may be only 16 levels but there are more bosses than that in the game. They cram them in toward the end. Of the 20-plus bosses in the game, who are the most fun to fight?

8 Rat King

Rat King is one of the weirder villains in the TMNT series as a whole. He’s the boss in stage five aptly named “King of the Spill.” It’s a sewer-based level that is a callback to the third stage in Turtles in Time. Rat King was also the boss in that game, riding atop a motorized hovercraft.

The hovercraft appears in Shredder’s Revenge as well. Rat King will jump on top of it as he summons swarms of rats to attack players. Here’s a tip – beat Rat King with Splinter to get an achievement.

7 Tempestra

Tempestra is the boss of the sixth stage called “Mall Meltdown.” It’s one of the best stages in Shredder's Revenge as there are a lot of fun gags to see. Tempestra doesn’t fight the player much, as she instead summons digital versions of Tokka and Rahzar to get the job done.

These characters are from the second live-action movie, but they eventually made it into the cartoons too. They were also the bosses of stage four in Turtles in Time. This stage is like getting three bosses for the price of one.

6 Wingnut

Wingnut is another goofy character as perhaps a spoof on Batman. He is the villain on stage eight which is referred to as “Panic in the Sky.” It’s an on-rails stage wherein players will ride flying hoverboards as they fight bad guys along the way.

While he may look goofy, Wingnut is a tricky character to take down. One of his seemingly favorite attacks has him dart around the screen at top speed. It is reminiscent of Storm Eagle’s move set from Mega Man X. The boss is a fun challenge but the stage overall is another great one too.

5 Leatherhead

Leatherhead is a great name for a boss. In the cartoon, he’s a southern gator with a fun, cheesy accent. He’s the boss of the ninth stage in Shredder’s Revenge, aka “Crisis at Coney Island.” This is yet another good-looking stage as it is filled with tons to see.

What makes this boss unique is his use of sewers as traps. Leatherhead will dart into them and spring out onto unsuspecting players. This is the only stage that also gives players a hand via the turtles’ frog friends. They’ll race by on the rollercoaster and toss flaming barrels or pizza for players to use. Leatherhead, to note, was the eighth stage boss in Turtles in Time.

4 Baxter Stockman

Baxter Stockman was the first boss in Turtles in Time and an annoying one at that. He makes a return in Shredder’s Revenge, albeit much later in the campaign. He is the boss of the 12th stage, “It Won’t Fly.”

This level takes place in an underground lab that the heroes will eventually uncover. It’s a tricky level to navigate because Stockman has built a lot of robots to throw at players. His fight can be daunting as well as the boss likes to retreat behind a bubble while he shoots near impossible to dodge lasers at players.

3 Chrome Drome

Chrome Drome is a fake-out. He’s the boss in the 13th stage called “Technodrome Redux.” This is the first stage in Dimension X and also the first stage with two separate bosses. Players will first encounter General Traag, who is a forgettable rock monster, halfway through the level. At the stage's end, a boss that looks like Shredder will appear, who will eventually be revealed to be Chrome Drome.

Chrome Dome is a robot version of Shredder. He did not appear in Turtles in Time but he does use a move set similar to the normal Shredder in that game. Players will have to fling ninjas at the camera to weaken this killer robot.

2 Statue Of Tyranny

The final stage in the game “Wrath of the Lady” is not a stage at all. It is a series of two connected bosses. That’s okay as it was a nice change of pace for the 16th level in Shredder’s Revenge.

Players must first defeat Krang who has taken over the Statue of Liberty. He renamed it Statue of Tyranny in the process. It’s a move straight out of Ghostbusters 2 except this time the villains are piloting one of this nation’s greatest treasures. Too bad the turtles didn’t get a mech too. It could have been a more fun mech-on-mech battle.

1 Super Shredder

Super Shredder is the true final boss of the game, and this is also the form he takes in the finale of Turtles in Time. In that game, he seemingly focuses his chi to get stronger. In Shredder’s Revenge, he uses ooze instead to transform.

This is one tough boss as players cannot damage Shredder until he goes into a weakened state. Prepare to do a lot of dodging and jumping. This challenge makes it a lot of fun to go through though. It just takes some patience.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge was released on June 16, 2022 and is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
