Teen slasher films are always a fun ride, thanks to the emotions that the main characters are dealing with and the angst that they feel. Combine those feelings with a serial killer hiding in a small town or city and it's no wonder that this subgenre is so popular. Just like slashers that focus on adults, these movies have some smart quotes that range from being funny to explaining the experiences that the protagonist is having.

From the fourth entry in a popular franchise to a movie that focuses on what being a final girl means, these slashers feature high school characters and some memorable quotes.

Helen And Julie's Friendship Changes In I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

Helen: "What happened to us? We used to be best friends." Julie: "We used to be a lot of things."

Barry (Ryan Phillippe), Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) in I Know What You Did Last Summer

Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Helen Shivers (Sarah Michelle Geller) have a strong horror movie friendship in I Know What You Did Last Summer, especially since it shifts over the course of the story. While there are some memorable quotes in the 1997 film about the villain Ben Willis (Muse Watson), Helen and Julie's sad conversation is important.

When Helen admits that she doesn't understand why she and Julie don't talk for a year after they accidentally run someone over, Julie shrugs, showing that she has had a hard time. Julie cares about Helen but is haunted by what happened and can't get back to a normal life.

Jenny Loves Horror Movies In Scream 4 (2011)

"The first three, the original trilogy is based off of Sidney Prescott, but then she threatened to sue them if they used her stories. So they just started making stuff up. Stab 5 has time travel, which is by far the worst."

Marnie and Jenny sitting on a couch watching a movie in Scream 4

Every Scream movie has memorable quotes, and the fourth film in the franchise from 2011 has a brilliant opening scene. Jenny Randall (Aimee Teegarden) and Marnie Cooper (Britt Robertson) are watching Stab 7 and while Jenny is a big fan of the horror genre, Marnie is afraid, especially since the franchise is inspired by final girl Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) life story.

Jenny's words are smart and prove that the Scream franchise pokes fun at slasher franchises, especially ones that go off the rails after a few movies and start including strange storylines and settings that don't make any sense. Since Jenny has seen so many scary films, she knows all about the frustrations of being a fan.

Max's Mom Warns Her Not To Star In A Horror Movie In The Final Girls (2015)

Amanda: "Honestly, if you ever become an actor, don't ever do a slasher flick." Max: "You wouldn't catch me dead in a movie."

Amanda and Max in The Final Girls

There are several underrated horror movie final girls, including Max Cartwright (Taissa Farmiga), who misses her mom Amanda (Malin Akerman) who once starred in a slasher flick called Camp Bloodbath. Max and her pals end up in the movie after going to a screening at a movie theater, which has equally creepy and hilarious results.

Amanda and Max's conversation is as funny as the rest of the film and also has smart foreshadowing as, of course, Max doesn't act in a horror film but does literally walk right into the setting of the movie that brought her mom fame. The dialogue in The Final Girls is just as enjoyable as the camp setting, which brings up happy memories of childhoods spent outdoors but is ultimately more sinister than that.

Luke's Mom Warns Him In Better Watch Out (2016)

"Now don't stay up late and watch scary movies, okay? It'll give you nightmares again."

Ashley lying in the snow in Better Watch Out

Better Watch Out is an expected holiday horror movie and can also be considered a teen slasher as the story focuses on the main character Ashley (Olivia DeJonge) as she babysits Luke Lerner (Levi Miller) and has a horrifying time. Luke's mom Deandra (Virginia Madsen) tells him not to watch horror films as she believes that they upset him, a quote that ends up being significant once audiences learn the big twist in the film.

Better Watch Out is a master class is shock and awe, and fans know that there doesn't seem to be anything that Luke is actually afraid of. It's amazing that his mom has no idea who her child really is and what he's capable of.

McKayla Talks About Her Fashionable Outfit In Tragedy Girls (2017)

"We're totally gonna have to start wearing masks if we keep dressing this good. People gon' know it's us."

McKayla and Sadie sitting in their cheerleading uniforms in Tragedy Girls

While there were more teen horror movies being released in the '90s and 2000s, Tragedy Girls came out in 2017 and told a fascinating story of best friends McKayla Hopper (Alexandra Shipp) and Sadie Cunningham (Brianna Hildebrand) who decide to kill people and become famous on social media. It stands out among the crop of teen horror comedies and classic slasher franchises featuring high schoolers as the main characters

McKayla's quote is hilarious and drives home how young the two main characters are. While they may be committing murder, they can't help but focus on what they're wearing, as they still care about the stuff of high school. The contrast between their crimes and their everyday life at school is definitely stark.
