Today, Geoff Keighly presented Gamescom Opening Night Live, which brought with it a ton of new announcements, including showing off more of Little Nightmares 2the DLC campaign of Doom Eternal, and, of course, new gameplay for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. There was also a notable indie game presence at the event too, with Keighley shining a spotlight on 12 Minutes and Surgeon Simulator 2.

Another indie game to get its moment was Teardown, a title by two-person team Tuxedo Labs that sees players adventure through fully destructible environments and carefully plot intricate heists. Although the ambitious upcoming release has been shown at events before, the Gamescom trailer looked to be the most advanced version of Teardown's gameplay and voxel style fans have seen to date.

The trailer begins by surveying the oddly beautiful landscapes present within Tuxedo Labs' upcoming release, showing dilapidated factories, large shipping docks, and a giant mansion filled with glass windows that look tailor-made for smashing. The trailer goes on to tell players that Teardown offers a "truly interactive environment," with the footage shifting to the player smashing through a wall with a huge digger. This level of interactivity is shown off through a handful of equally incredible clips, with the player firing their gun at an explosive barrel and showing the impact on the wall of a nearby building as well as firing a shotgun at a drainpipe to knock it down.

It seems vehicles will be a huge part of the title as well, with the player driving a car through the large glass window of the mansion seen in the trailer's opening moments. However, the destruction will all feed into Teardown's main objective: pulling off high-speed heists. Following their chaotic spree, the player builds some walkways and departs on a thrilling sprint throughout the map, picking up several items found on the walls of the level's building. Upon rounding them all up, he drives a car off a ramp and crashes it into a building, fleeing on a nearby boat to end the mission.

Overall, it seems Teardown is going to be an incredibly inventive indie game with a unique central premise. Although a release date wasn't given, it seems its presence at Gamescom is a good sign that Tuxedo Labs are well into production, so hopefully, fans will get a release date sooner rather than later. Alongside Teardown, Gamescom had several big surprises in store for viewers, including a Star Wars themed Sims 4 expansion and a Walking Dead crossover with Bridge Constructor.

Teardown is in development for PC.
