In Teamfight Tactics, there are thousands of potential combinations players can create to build their unique army against opponents. Of these combinations, many players designate a "carry" to essentially bring their team to victory through either their high damage output, or unique contribution to the team. In Teamfight Tactics as well, there are powerful five-cost units that become available to players when they hit higher levels. These characters contribute uniquely powerful abilities that no other unit has access to, making them important to consider for players.

Those unfamiliar with Teamfight Tactics may not immediately understand why these units are given such strong and unique abilities in comparison to the rest of the cast each set. While there is a lot to explain in TFT's newest Gizmos and Gadgets Set specifically, generally each set's units are provided strength in both individual cases, as well as depending on their cost. Units are able to cost anywhere from one to five gold in total, with each cost also having an associated chance they even appear in the shop. Five-cost characters are both expensive, and extremely rare.

TFT Five-Cost Units: Uniquely Powerful, Uniquely Costly

tft set 6 kaisa in mutants comp

In set six of TFT, there are many unique traits that have never been seen before in Teamfight Tactics' history, as well as many returning ones, with those provided solely by five-cost units being the most interesting and new of the bunch. While Kaisa specifically does not provide a TFT game-changing mechanic as many other five-costs do, her ability begins by dashing to the hex farthest from all enemies, then she fires a volley of rockets spread evenly among all enemies for a total of 14 rockets at one-star. At two-star she initially fires 18, and then at three-star she fires a total of 40, each of which is increased by one for each time she attacked this combat.

This champion is a strong advocate for the carry position in both the challenger synergy, as well as mutant teams. Kaisa when provided items such as Spear of Shojin or Guinsoo's Rageblade, can quickly become an absolute killing machine. In several of the possible mutant synergies, Kaisa is provided buffs like 25% health executions on enemies, and continually rising AP as the round goes on, potentially making Kaisa one of the strongest Teamfight Tactics champions.

tft set 6 jinx champion rundown

Another high damage five-cost of the set is Jinx, looking especially menacing due to her connection in the upcoming Arcane release. With a definite bloodlust and competitive nature alongside her sister Vi, the two share the trait Sister, providing them both with special unique boosts if they both are present during combat. If the Sister buff is active, Jinx is provided bonus stacking attack speed after each takedown, which is especially dangerous alongside her ultimate. After casting, Jinx briefly flies into the air and crashes down, dealing a percentage of max health to enemies as true damage, and also switching to her rocket launcher.

Followingly closely to many of the Arcane teasers released by Riot Games, the sisters Vi and Jinx are attempting to out-perform one another, pushing themselves and making them both an extrordinary duo in many team compositions. Upon landing, Jinx's rocket launcher deals massive AoE damage that scales with her AD, making her another potential high-damage carry candidate.

tft set 6 jayce transformer

Jayce enters set six in a very unique form, providing his team the "Transformer" buff, but only applies to his character. While Jayce has the ability to be both melee and ranged in normal League of Legends, he carried this trait over to TFT in a way never seen before. If in the front two rows, Jayce is a melee champion with an ultimate allowing him to slam his hammer, dealing massive AoE damage to opponents.

In the back two rows, Jayce is a ranged character, deploying his tech to increase ally attack speed, and fire large blasts at opponents. Mastering the ability to appropriately decide whether Jayce should be melee or ranged is definitely difficult between situations, requiring heavy game knowledge and dedicated TFT research.

tft set 6 taum kench 5-cost unit

Taum Kench, like Jayce, adds an additional buff that solely applies to him as a champion. Taum applies the "Glutton" buff, allowing players to feed a single unit to Taum Kench each round, permanently increasing his stats according to the unit swallowed. If the unit was a mage, his AP is increased as an example. Taum's ability also swallows opposing champions, dealing damage over time and providing him with 40% damage reduction. The damage dealt and exact damage reduction is definitely keen to changes both prior to release and after the TFT mid-set update.

The Magical Game Changers

tft set 6 viktor 5cost unit

Alongside champions like Ziggs, and Vex: The Gloomist, Viktor shares the trait "Archanist," which significantly increases the AP of all champions on the team, as well as giving additional AP to Archanists specifically. Viktor's ability, appropriately titled "Death Rays," spawns several laser cannons on all sides of the combat arena, then after a brief delay they each fire lasers at as many enemies as they can manage. These lasers deal massive damage, destroy a set percentage of all shields, and leave an additional armor shred for a short duration afterwards.

tft set 6 yuumi champion academy splash art

While Yuumi being a beloved character is definitely one of League of Legends' most unpopular opinons, the cat holds a special place in set six of Teamfight Tactics with her unique buff "Cuddly." This buff allows her to attach to an ally at the start of combat, providing them a shield scaling with her max health, and providing them additional bonuses. When she ults, she detaches from the champion, and casts her ultimate on all enemies, stunning them for one second before quickly re-attaching to a nearby champion.

There are many additionally unique characters across set six that provide incredible and unique buffs to the army, as well as qualify heavily as the carries for teams, but this is simply a few of the five-cost options. Hopefully as players continue to explore this set, each five-cost champion will find their place in every composition.
