Having developed several major games during its over 25-year tenure as a video game staple, Team Ninja has worked on everything from Dead or Alive and Metroid to Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Hyrule Warriors. However, what most fans will remember the studio for is its creation of the Ninja Gaiden and Nioh series, which have since become renowned within their respective fandoms.

Speaking on what Team Ninja is working on next in an interview with TheGamer, Nioh director Fumihiko Yasuda talked openly about the fact that several projects are in the works at the studio. Unfortunately, he did clarify that these projects don't include new entries in either the Nioh or Ninja Gaiden series, however, he did provide some intriguing updates as to whether fans would see either at some point in the future.

"Team Ninja would like to focus on working on new titles, so there really isn't a plan for Nioh 3 at this point," Yasuda confirmed when discussing the likelihood of a third entry in the Nioh series during the interview. As for if players could expect more Nioh in the future, he does claim that he "would like to go back to the series at some point." According to the director, he thinks with some more games under the team's belt and a little more experience, it could go on to "create an even greater game" that usurps both Nioh and its recent sequel. It seems while the franchise is on the back burner, for now, it's definitely not one the studio wants to keep there for long.

In terms of a Ninja Gaiden game, it seems the studio is a lot more forward about its intentions to utilize the series than some may realize, with Yasuda claiming it's "a really important series to Team Ninja." He goes on to reveal that although there's nothing to announce currently, fans should "look forward to some potential news for some kind of announcement in the near future." Seeing as Ninja Gaiden hasn't resurfaced since 2014's Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Zthere are definitely fans waiting eagerly to see where the series could go next, so it's comforting to know Team Ninja is considering what to do with the franchise.

The rest of the interview covers several interesting tidbits concerning Team Ninja's career and what it's looking to pursue going forward, including whether or not it will stick to player-created protagonists in the Nioh franchise. It also covers the studio's relationship with the Dark Souls series, what bosses didn't make the cut in Nioh 2, and why Yasuda believes the Souls genre has managed to thrive in recent years.
