Team Ninja Announcing New Game at TGS 2011

Team Ninja, the studio renowned for giving us one of the best re-imaginings of Ryu Hayabusa and those ridiculous, and ridiculously fun, Dead or Alive games has announced that they will be unveiling a new game during Tokyo Game Show 2011.

What will it be? That remains the big mystery... or it might not, depending on how you feel about the studio.

A majority of the developer's resume has to do with either Ninja Gaiden or Dead or Alive. Ninja Gaiden 3 has already been announced and will be playable to the Japanese audience this year, who will no doubt already figure out how to perform the most absurd and mind-boggling combos. Team Ninja did venture out of their comfort zone of polygonal breasts and ninjas to work on Metroid: Other M, which didn't deliver on sales expectations.

What does that leave gamers with then? A rather strong assumption that a new Dead or Alive game will be announced. Dead or Alive: Dimensions was announced for the 3DS and was released a few months ago, so it's natural that a new console DoA game would be in the works.

While the team is very talented, it is sort of sad to see how Team Ninja has become a two-trick pony at this point. Both the Ninja Gaiden games and Dead or Alive are very entertaining, but it was a breath of fresh air to see the team work on Metroid: Other M. If Team Ninja applied their unique take on gameplay and action presentation to a brand new franchise, that would be pretty neat, wouldn't it?

Right now, the focus for the studio would be for Ninja Gaiden 3. During E3 2011, we went hands-on with the game to dissect the finer points of ninja cutlery in action. The third title in the series is adding some new gameplay and expanding upon protagonist Ryu Hayabusa's character and personality, something that hasn't been done in-depth before. You can also stimulate your ocular nerves with the latest screenshots of the game, too.

Ninja Gaiden 3 releases in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
