It's 2022, yet there are still many gamers that have yet to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 console. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, chip shortages, scalpers, and bots buying up all the stock have combined to make it incredibly difficult for consumers to get a PS5. Major retailer restocks are one of the only ways that gamers can get a PS5 at a fair price, and now it seems that Target will be the next store to have consoles available.

Jake Randall, who has been right about past Target PS5 restocks, believes that a restock will be happening either Thursday, January 6 or Friday, January 7. The Target PS5 restock will take place between 6am and 9am ET on one of those days, with stores having significant stock to sell. Anyone interested will want to make sure they have a Target account ready and be watching the site at those times as they likely won't know that the restock is live until it actually happens. The majority of Target stores will have between 20 and 40 PS5 consoles ready to sell, according to Randall, though some will have up to 200, so this may give shoppers a genuinely decent chance at grabbing a console. Most stores will likely require customers to buy the console online and then pick it up at their local Target, so keep that in mind.

It seems that most of the Target PS5 console stock will be the Disc Edition of the console, which costs $499 versus the $399 that the Digital Edition costs. For those who may be unaware of the differences between the two consoles, the PS5 Disc Edition includes a disc drive, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition is the exact same as its counterpart spec-wise, minus the disc drive.

This Target PS5 restock is one of the first major PS5 restocks since the start of the new year, and it will be interesting to see when other retailers follow suit. It's quite likely that there will be multiple Walmart, Amazon, and GameStop PS5 restocks in the months ahead, and while the chip shortage is expected to continue throughout the year, it's possible that it will start becoming easier for people to get their hands on a next-gen console.

Whether or not it becomes easier to get a PS5 this year or not remains to be seen, but in the meantime, interested customers can keep trying their hand at these PS5 restocks as they come up. There should be multiple opportunities throughout the year, though it will never be easy to buy one. All fans can do is keep trying until they're successful or PS5 stock becomes more readily available to the masses.
