On November 9, Bandai Namco released a new trailer for the long-awaited Tales of Symphonia Remastered and included the release date for the game. The original Tales of Symphonia is considered one of the top fan favorites in the long-running JRPG series, even many years after its Western release exclusively on the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. Eventually, a PS3 port titled Tales of Symphonia Chronicles was released in 2014, with a PC port of that version coming to Steam in 2016 under the game's original title.

The story of Tales of Symphonia revolves around a young swordsman Lloyd, his childhood friend Colette, and other friends and allies they meet in a quest to heal and save their home world of Sylvarant. Throughout their journey, Lloyd and company encounter foes that would stand against them, learn more about their world, discover that worlds other than their own are out there, and uncover the truth of how these other worlds are connected to Sylvarant. Tales of Symphonia Remastered was first revealed in September 2022 during a Nintendo Direct broadcast.

In a new trailer that ran just under two minutes, Bandai Namco confirmed that Tales of Symphonia Remastered will release on multiple platforms on February 17, 2023. The release date is six months ahead of the game's 20th anniversary in Japan. The trailer showed some dialogue between the cast and showed how both the animated cutscenes and battle scenes will look and run in the remaster, as well as some enhancements and polish that were added to ensure the best experience possible. It did not show any signs of remaster-exclusive content, meaning that the remaster will likely follow the original version. Based on that knowledge, players can expect a standard playthrough to take 45 to 60 hours to finish on average. However, characters such as Zelios, Genis, and Presea made their appearances known, and the voice cast of the original game was kept intact for the Remastered edition. The trailer ended with the game's release date and platforms shown on the screen.

Tales of Symphonia Remastered follows a line of Tales games that have been ported, remastered, and well-received by fans and critics alike. 2019's Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition achieved a major milestone of over a million units sold across multiple platforms in just over two years. Likewise, 2021's Tales of Arise broke many series sales records, including setting a concurrent player record on Steam and earning accolades from different outlets.

Whether the Tales series will see more remastered ports on platforms such as the Switch remains to be seen. But, just as the original GameCube release was the way for many people, the remaster will be the way for newcomers to experience the game and the series for the first time.

Tales of Symphonia Remastered launches on February 17 for PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
