Gearbox Entertainment is keeping the fans of the Borderlands franchise excited in 2022. With the recent release of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Gearbox has now announced a follow-up to a fan-favorite spin-off - Tales from the Borderlands. Tales from the Borderlands was released back in 2014 by Telltale Games. It featured a choice-based narrative, which was uncommon for fight-loving and loot-hungry Borderlands gamers.

Telltale Games is known for its story-driven decision-making games, providing players with a rich narrative and gaming experience. The announcement of The Wolf Among Us 2 reminded the gaming industry of Telltale Games’ outstanding reputation, as the announcement was followed by a community-wide excitement. This announcement is expected to excite a wider gaming audience.

Borderlands, 2K Games, & Gearbox Entertainment have all posted the announcement simultaneously on their Instagram pages. Not revealing too much until summer, they have all simply stated “more stories to explore in the Borderlands universe”, announcing a new Tales from the Borderlands game coming later this year. However, it is questionable if the announcement is a surprise, since the excited Borderlands gamers were anticipating new Tales from the Borderlands releasing before Borderlands 4.

It is a surprise, however, that Telltale Games have not yet joined a collective announcement of the new game, since it is known to be the first to announce its games. Perhaps, it is only a matter of time. Meanwhile, the fans of the franchise can expect many questions answered, and new questions asked with Tales from the Borderlands 2. As the first game ended on a significant cliffhanger, players are to this day eager to know what happened to some major characters at the Tales from the Borderlands’ ending. Especially considering that some of those characters shamelessly appeared in Borderlands 3, as if nothing happened. And some Borderlands players already anticipate seeing certain main characters from the Tales from the Borderlands in Borderlands 4.

As the game was choice-based, the narrative went in various directions. Tales from the Borderlands 2 could clarify which decisions were canon, and which were not. In addition to that, Tales from the Borderlands 2, alongside Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, undoubtedly build a supportive narrative for the following main installment of the series - Borderlands 4. There already are many features Borderlands 4 could take from Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

Borderlands franchise is loved in part for its fantastic combination of absurdity and insanity. This story-rich franchise is endless, exactly how the fans want it. Each game answers a variety of questions, yet leaves more to be answered. It is daring to expect anything specific from the Tales from the Borderlands 2, since the Borderlands series is known to be unpredictable and unexpected. As Gearbox announced, further details are to be revealed in summer 2022.
