Take-Two Interactive is the parent company of several esteemed developers, from Hangar 13 (Mafia 3), Firaxis Games (Civilization) and Rockstar Games (Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption), it's in charge of a lot of well-loved series. There's good news for fans then, as the company wants to release even more of these sorts of high profile games each year.

In a new interview, 2K president David Ismailer explained that Take-Two Interactive's goal is to "to grow and to continue focusing on a few key areas, including mobile games, Asia, and triple-A games as well. "I don't think there's radical changes in the strategy. Ideally, we will have one triple-A title every single year," says Ismailer.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explains, "We kind of thought we were there in 2015." In 2016 it also had a "really good schedule" that was in line with the promise of building "a big enough stable of IPs so that each season we have a great group of releases." The company had Mafia 3, Civilization 6, and Overwatch rival Battleborn (which was underwhelming.)

This year, Take-Two will not be releasing any of these triple-A titles. The only brand new games that the company is putting out this year (excluding DLC and new platform releases of existing titles) are NBA 2K18 and WWE 2K18, which Ismailer seems to consider separately from its triple-A games business.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will release next year, though, which should make the 2019 fiscal year (which begins in March 2018) look "much better." Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to sell less than Grand Theft Auto 5, but many still expect it to be one of the biggest games of the year. In fact, Take-Two publishing rival Ubisoft has publicly expressed its happiness that the game got delayed out of this year and therefore can't compete with its own holiday 2017 releases.

As for what other triple-A games are in the work, Zelnick also teased "a huge new title from 2K." 2K Games publishes the Borderlands and BioShock franchises, it should be noted. Of those two, a new Borderlands game is far more likely as developer Gearbox Software has teased Borderlands 3, though no official announcement has made. If Take-Two sticks to its one triple-A game a year mantra then the 2018 release of Red Dead Redemption 2 means that it could be a while until fans get to play it, but it hopefully it will be worth the wait.

It seems as if Take-Two Interactive's yearly schedule for a triple-A title release on an annual basis will begin with Red Dead Redemption 2, which is expected to launch in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
