After a period of uncertainty, it has been confirmed that E3 will be returning this year as a virtual event. In the announcement, E3 organizers confirmed several of the companies scheduled to make presentations, including Microsoft, Nintendo, Capcom, and Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games.
It remains unknown which games and franchises Take-Two Interactive will showcase at E3 2021, though many hope to see updates on some of Rockstar's biggest games, such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. While Rockstar Games isn't usually present at E3, it isn't impossible for the studio to reveal updates on some of its games, alongside games from Take-Two's other studios. Now, while fans are still being kept in the dark about what they can actually expect Take-Two interactive to reveal at E3 2021, here are some predictions that may or may not be unveiled at the upcoming expo.
Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X
For several years now, fans have hoped to see Rockstar Games announce GTA 6 at E3 to no avail. However, should Rockstar announce GTA 6 at E3 2021, it will certainly be one of the biggest surprises of 2021, though this remains highly unlikely. Should Take-Two reveal anything related to Grand Theft Auto at E3 2021, it will likely be an update to the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series version of GTA 5. First announced at the PS5 event, Rockstar confirmed that it is once again reviving GTA 5 and will release an enhanced version of the game for new-gen consoles.
Specific details of this enhanced version of GTA 5 are currently thin, though it was mentioned that it would be releasing in the second half of 2021. Given that E3 2021 takes place in June, it is likely that Take-Two will utilize the event to showcase the major upgrades this new version will have, its specific release date, and whether these new versions will be released as a free upgrade or as a separate purchase. While the notion of GTA 5 optimized for the latest consoles could be exciting to some, it's not at all groundbreaking, especially since the game has been out for more than seven years now.
Red Dead Redemption Remastered
In 2010, Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption, which garnered widespread acclaim from players and critics. Given the success of Red Dead Redemption 2, rumors are rampant online about the possibility of a full remaster of the original game. Unfortunately, Rockstar is still yet to chime in on the rumors. However, if the studio plans to release a remaster of the game, E3 2021 would be the perfect venue to announce this.
As previously mentioned, Rockstar Games isn't expected to appear at E3 2021 despite its parent company being in attendance. However, due to the popularity of both Red Dead Redemption games, Rockstar may take advantage of E3's return with a bombshell announcement. Nonetheless, whether Rockstar will unveil Red Dead Redemption Remastered at E3 2021 remains to be seen. However, if Red Dead Redemption is in the pipeline for the event, it will likely announce more Red Dead Redemption Online content.
BioShock 4
For those unaware, there is a new BioShock game in the works. It remains to be seen whether the upcoming game will be called BioShock 4, but publisher 2K games did confirm that the project is in development. Back in 2019, 2K clarified that the new BioShock would be "in development for the next several years." However, given that it is now 2021, there is a possibility that the developers are now ready to share some initial details about the new BioShock game.
The likelihood of Take-Two showcasing the new BioShock game at E3 2021 remains to be seen. On one side, it is likely that the new BioShock is still at the early stages of development, and the studio may not have much to share. On the other hand, the developers may be ready to share more details, especially since the game's initial announcement has been over a year.
Updates on Other Take-Two Games
The likeliest announcements that players can expect from Take-Two at E3 2021 are updates on some of its other games, such as Mafia, LA Noire, Max Payne, Borderlands, and many others. These updates will likely be enhanced versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X, new online content, new in-game events, or maybe even sequels.
At this point, Take-Two's presence at E3 2021 could mean anything for any of the games under its belt. Nonetheless, the only way players can do at the moment is to wait and attend E3's digital conference, which will be free and will be held on June 12-15 on major streaming platforms.
