The Ace Attorney franchise has managed to become a high-profile gaming series within the span of just a few years. With very little gameplay to carry the titles, each installment wins the hearts and minds of gamers due to incredibly well-developed characters and phenomenal storytelling.

There are a number of games out there that could do well if turned into a movie, and Ace Attorney is one of them. If rumors are true, renowned filmmaker Takashi Miike may be doing just that.

Of course, this sort of thing isn't Miike's speciality. Anyone familiar with his work is well aware that he specializes in absolute brutal gorefests, most famously in Audition and Ichi The Killer. Yet he seems to want to experiment a bit with his next project. At the Cannes Film Festival, which showed off his latest movie, Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai, he said that he was already working on his next film, which would be decidedly different than his normal work.

Now, it should be noted that he didn't flat out say that the movie was based on the Ace Attorney franchise. He mentioned that it would be a light-hearted courtroom drama - based off of a Nintendo DS game. Of course, all signs would still point to Ace Attorney, but there is actually another series in Japan called Yuzai x Muzai. It's essentially the same as Ace Attorney, except developed by Namco instead of Capcom, and isn't as well-known.

While it seems obvious that Ace Attorney would be the one to get the movie deal, it wouldn't be surprising if the other game was chosen instead. Miike seems like the type to buck the trends and be drawn to the more obscure property - if he felt it would tell a better story. Either way, this should be a very interesting project, if only because its different from his usual work. Still, it would be nice to see Phoenix Wright up on the big screen, wacky haircut and all.

What do you think? Would you be willing to see a Phoenix Wright movie? Would Miike's directorial style affect the story in any way?
