Taika Waititi is a really busy guy. Over the last few years he’s found the time to direct, write and star in his own Academy Award contender Jojo Rabbit, do his fair share of work in What We Do in the Shadows and even take a swing at The Mandalorian, just for kicks. The man’s schedule is completely booked for 2021 as he’ll start filming Thor: Love and Thunder, but before 2020 wraps up, he's delivering a tiny slice of Christmas joy.

Waititi has paired with Coca-Cola to bring to life the company’s latest ad, with true on-brand style and a bit of Waititi’s humor added to it. Bear in mind this is not Waititi’s first commercial, as the New Zealander has previously done similar work for brands like Old Spice and Australian beer brand Carlton Dry.

As if the ad wasn’t touching enough, Coca-Cola’s marketing team made sure to remind everyone what a year 2020 has been with the video description noting that “Be it in person, over an awkward video call, or just a quick message, making time for the ones you love is what makes Christmas truly the most special time of year, no matter how you do it.”

Coca-Cola has an almost century-long history of tying their brand to Christmas, something that has produced a plethora of fantastic advertisement pieces in all types of media. And just in case Santa Claus’ red clothes aren’t enough of a tell, the company happens to be at least partly responsible for popularizing the image of Saint Nicholas known and loved to this day.

Waititi’s efforts seem like the perfect way for the director to close this year, as a long busy road lies ahead for him, as he’s also been picked to take over Star Wars once he's done with Thor: Love and Thunder.
