Telltale Games brought Bill Willingham’s beloved Fables series to video games in 2013’s The Wolf Among Us. The game follows the fabled Big Bad Wolf in his human identity, Bigby, as he tries to solve the mystery behind the death of one of Fabletown’s residents. Told in episodic fashion, the The Wolf Among Us forces the player to make a series of decisions through dialog trees. Bigby can choose from a variety of paths to get the information he needs to solve the murder. The cast is comprised of classic, seriously flawed characters including Bigby Wolf, Snow White, Beauty, the Beast, and Mr. Toad.

Though the gameplay is largely point-and-click, there are quicktime events that, if the player isn’t quick enough or chooses not to respond, can result in character death or unforeseen consequences. The game received positive reviews overall, though the individual episodes fluctuated in quality. Critics loved the story, atmosphere, and characters, but found the episodes short and occasionally glitchy. The success of the game has led Vertigo Comics, Fables’ publisher, to announce that the game will be adapted into comic form. The adaptation will follow the story but further explore the characters’ backstories.
