Named after its foul-mouthed main protagonist, Duke Nukem started life as a 2D platforming series before swiftly moving into the FPS genre. After several highly successful releases in the mid-to-late nineties, the franchise faded into obscurity, due largely to the poor reception of the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever.
