The release date for the System Shock remake seems to have been pushed back to March 2023. The original System Shock released way back in 1994, and while it may never have reached the frenzied heights of some other titles that launched in the same era, the game earned plenty of praise from fans and critics alike. Thanks to the strong reception of the original System Shock, a widely popular sequel was released five years later.However, following the turn of the millennium, System Shock didn't see as much love as perhaps it should have. Its original developer Looking Glass closed following the release of System Shock 2, leading to the rights to the game being acquired by Night Dive Studios. There were plans for a System Shock 3, but these have since fallen through. However, for fans that want to return to the techno-horror of the series, a remake of the original System Shock was announced back in 2016. However, since then, development has taken some time and the most recent expected release date for the remake was 2022.It seems that the release window may have been pushed back again, according to the recently updated Steam page for the System Shock remake, which now lists the current release date as March 2023. This would make the System Shock remake the latest in a long list of highly anticipated 2022 releases that have been delayed into next year. Nightdive Studios has yet to comment on the game's new release window, though the company did retweet Wario64's announcement of the change.
It was believed that the remake was on track to be finished soon. Back in April, Nightdive Studios reported that development was nearly finished on System Shock, giving fans a lot of hope that the game could be released in 2022. More and more information on the game has been shown off this year as well, and while this will no doubt make the delay disappointing, it may indicate that this is the last postponement gamers will see.
The most recent look fans got at the System Shock remake was a new trailer shown off at Gamescom 2022. Opening with SHODAN, the primary antagonist of the game, fans got a nostalgic look at the rebuilt version of the classic horror title. Even with the new release window on the game's Steam page, it only pushes the launch back by a few months, meaning System Shock won't be in development for too much longer.
