System Shock 3 is a title that has been in development for well over twenty years. Many fans of the original games were convinced that System Shock 3 would never see the light of day, largely due to a cacophony of various setbacks. However, it seems that despite everything that has happened, development of the game is still on track.

System Shock is one of the most influential, yet obscure game franchises in gaming history. Back in the 90s when both these games in the series were originally released, they took the gaming community by storm and inspired numerous successful titles after the fact. Both Deus Ex and Bioshock would have never been made possible if it weren't for System Shock. In fact, when the idea of a third game started to become highly demanded, the original developers of Dead Space wanted to make System Shock 3.

As previously mentioned, the development of System Shock 3 has been teased for decades, but the demand for it has never gone away in all that time. When OtherSide Entertainment first released the initial trailer for System Shock 3 back in September of last year, people lost their minds. Though, something happened back in early February that caused many to question whether the third System Shock game would ever release.

Purportedly, a large number of people from the development team were laid off, which led many people to presume that any and all development for System Shock 3 had been dissolved indefinitely. However, new reports show that while there have been major departures from the studio since then, almost entirely due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the core team remains intact and the game is still in development.

This is great news for any fan of the System Shock series. For many fans, this game has been a longtime coming and it will give new players the chance to experience a cult classic franchise. In addition, a remake of System Shock 2 is currently in development as well, which will give so many people the opportunity to play such an influential game on modern systems.

However, many in the gaming community are somewhat concerned by this remake. When the demo for the System Shock 2 remake was showcased at The Steam Game Festival, many felt the control formatting was rather archaic. In all fairness, most games from the 90s have aged rather poorly and thus most remakes of a similar caliber have opted to update the game mechanics as well as the graphics. Hopefully, System Shock 3 will suffer from none of those problems.

System Shock 3 has no official release date, but is currently in development.
