Rumors have been swirling around the Internet for a while regarding a sequel to the Syphon Filter series.

More solid rumors are surfacing this week that Bend Studio may be secretly working on a Syphon Filter title for the Vita.

The rumors started circling when the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK hit shelves across the pond. In it they hinted that Bend Studio – the studio responsible for past Syphon Filter PSP titles – is developing this sequel alongside Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Golden Abyss is currently being designed to take full advantage of the Vita’s main features – as seen in the teaser trailer.

It won’t be surprising if they incorporate a lot of what they’re adding to Uncharted into a new Syphon Filter game. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is shaping up to be the must have title for the Vita the same way Uncharted 3 is for PS3 owners. Assuming the treatment Bend Studio is giving to Uncharted will be applied to Syphon Filter, fans should be very excited if these rumors are true.

Another bit of of news out of the UK is that SCE’s London Studio is working on a sequel for Syphon Filter 3 – which was released on the PSOne – to be launched on the PS3 sometime in the Winter of 2012. There are very little details on this PS3 title and the rumors of the Vita version of Syphon Filter seem much more plausible at this point.

Syphon Filter has always been a solid series, never straying far from the format it started back in the PSOne days. The main protagonist, Gabe Logan, was your regular secret agent hero with standard arsenal of weapons and gadgets – a taser was the enjoyable. Regardless of which console the game launches on fans can be sure it’s likely to offer a quality experience.

Are you looking forward to a new Syphon Filter title?
