The COVID-19 outbreak has trapped millions in their homes and is already having a huge effect on the sales of Nintendo's Switch Lite. Gaming is at the forefront of a surge of interest in indoor hobbies, but rampant sales of the Nintendo Switch Lite are beginning to empty stocks worldwide.

With its user-friendly approach and easy-to-learn games, the standard Nintendo Switch is often recommended to people of all ages who are interested in getting into gaming. This was enough to practically wipe out the amount of standard Switches on offer in the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now it seems like the newer Switch Lite may be following suit.

Already, many online stores are beginning to report shortages of the smaller, cheaper console. For those unaware of the difference, the more colorful Nintendo Switch Lite can't actually switch between console and mobile modes, has no removable controllers, and a slightly smaller screen.

Despite this, the Switch Lite still gives good access to Nintendo's broad library of excellent titles, enough to fill thousands of lonely hours in quarantine. While there is some hope that Nintendo may be able to increase production to meet demand, it seems an unlikely prospect, and those who are thinking of picking up a Switch should do so sooner rather than later.
