Many players who do not have access to more expensive triple-A titles, or who have found themselves craving something fresh, have found joy in smaller indie titles. Besides Steam, the Nintendo eShop offers big discounts on indie titles semi-regularly, making it a great shopping site for indie lovers.

Many know the Nintendo eShop on the Switch for virtual titles from the big-name Nintendo series. It's very convenient to have a Nintendo virtual storefront, especially with COVID-19 still causing havoc. However, players who step away from the mainline games will find a wealth of indie titles. As with other Nintendo consoles, it can be tough to sort through the dross for the gold, but frequent discounts help with this. Such is the case for a pair of discounted games whose current discounts alone make them worth taking a look at.

One of the games is called Gurgamoth. It's a small party game to be played with friends. The goal is to use the various stage hazards to kill the other players. A simple enough premise, and executed well, plus a cool, spooky/goofy art style. What really draws the eye at the moment though, is its discount: the game is currently available for $0.09. This will only be the case for a limited time, but how long that actually means is a bit unclear. It may not be the most popular Switch game for a huge discount, but it certainly is an impressive discount.

Ordinarily, Gurgamoth goes for $10 on the Switch's eShop. This means that the discount essentially divides the cost by 100. At nine cents and 389 MB, it's hard to argue against not giving the game a try. It's not the first time a Nintendo eShop game has gone for less than $1, but last time it was for Flashback, an older Nintendo game making a return.

These discounts are good news for players everywhere. A high price can often be the single deciding factor in trying a game, and no player wants to feel like they've made a wasted investment. With low prices though, smaller games become more accessible, and are often perfect for certain situations. Hopefully, Nintendo will continue to take this approach with older titles, like when the first Fire Emblem finally releases outside of Japan.

Beyond Gurgamoth, there are many other indie games to try out on the Switch. Titles like Venture Kid and the recent Ikenfell are well worth checking out. In general, it's also a good idea to watch the shop for discounts anyway. Here's hoping there are more of them, for good games, in the near future.

Gurgamoth is available on Nintendo Switch and PC.
