The Nintendo Switch has skyrocketed in popularity over the years due in large part to the sheer variety of games that can be played on it. The newest Switch games have naturally taken precedence in the console's time on the market, but Nintendo has also committed itself to making some of its most classic games available through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. Ever since the service started, players have been able to go through the NES games that gave Nintendo its stardom, with SNES games being added later on. It's been one of the best ways to play some of the greatest hits from the earliest days of gaming.

With how popular the classic games offered through Switch Online have been, many fans have seen an unprecedented amount of potential in the service. There have been several requests for other consoles to be added, and recent rumors have shown that one of those wishes could be added sometime in the future. A recent datamine found that Switch Online could be getting Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, and this could be a huge development for the service. Both consoles had their fair share of iconic games, and there are some that would be excellent candidates for the first wave of possible releases.

Kirby's Dream Land On Nintendo Switch

The Kirby franchise is one of Nintendo's most iconic, and there would be no better way to show it some love than to put its very first game on the Switch. Kirby's Dream Land introduced players to many of the iconic game mechanics that are vital to the Kirby franchise today. Its simple gameplay makes it fun for all ages, and its charming design still holds up to this day. If Game Boy games will be coming to the Switch, making Kirby's Dream Land one of the first games in the service's lineup would be a great way to celebrate Kirby's upcoming 30 anniversary.

The Legend of Zelda's Oracle Duology On Nintendo Switch

The Legend of Zelda may be more closely associated with home console releases today, especially with the mammoth popularity of Breath of the WIld, but some of the franchise's best entries can be found on the Game Boy. The Game Boy Color was home to The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, two games that fully encapsulated the classic Zelda experience. It doesn't seem that Nintendo is eager to deliver a truly new, classic Zelda game any time soon, so bringing back these games would be an excellent way to keep that history alive.

Pokemon Crystal On Nintendo Switch

Pokemon Crystal version suicune

Pokemon games have come a very long way since the Game Boy, but that doesn't mean that those old titles aren't still worth playing. When many gamers think of the Game Boy or Game Boy Color, the first game that comes to mind is Pokemon, and there would be no better game to bring to the Switch than Pokemon Crystal. While Pokemon Red and Blue are worth their praise, Crystal took everything new that Silver and Gold introduced and put it into one neat package. It still remains one of the best Pokemon experiences, and putting it on the Switch would likely bring a lot of new players to the Switch Online service.

There is still no definite confirmation that Game Boy games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, but it's certainly starting to sound like more of a possibility. The handheld console revolutionized the way people play games, and it's remained one of the most important consoles in the history of Nintendo. Without the Game Boy, there probably wouldn't be a Nintendo Switch, so bringing those old games to Nintendo's current hottest platform would be a great way to pay homage. Until the service is made official, however, fans will just have to keep fantasizing about having another piece of history on the Nintendo Switch.
